it is proposed by the DCBA that cleaner streets and no graffitti lead to less crime. To this end, Dublin City Council is unanymous in wanting to go into partnership with them. Two elements to anti-graffitti plan: a)., a third machine for "cleaning" the walls, and b)., employing proffessional artists to do murals, because, " If we paint on side of buildings, graffitti artists don’t like defacing other artists work, so this’ll stop ‘em…" http://radio.indymedia.org/uploads/rjs.r.dublincitycoun...s.mp3 read full story / add a comment

At 3:30 pm, Two Hours of Speaker's Square began in Temple Bar Square, Dublin City. Three regular speakers and one by-stander held forth on various issues, and interjections from many (of the up to 20 audience), were numerous. Speaker's Square or Cearnóg na gCainteoirí is an occasional experiment which was revived in April 2004, and its aim, apart from to engage in stimulating realtime discussion, is to reclaim our public space from its commercial surrounds; and to fill it with ideas and opinions that one are not likely to find in the mainstream media. read full story / add a comment

Following the style set by the 'Horgan' judgement, the High Court has denied all the reliefs sought. Eoin Dubsky (the Shannon Warplane Redecorator) launched this Judicial Review proceedings in late 2002 to prevent the Government continuing to participate in and facilitate the War in Afghanistan. In her judgement given on 13th December 2005, Macken J. has even managed to deny that there is (or was) any war against that country by the US & Co. read full story / add a comment

Luckily, I recorded a lecture given by Gary McDerby (Principal Rsearch Scientist at Media Lab Europe) in April 2004, and what I heard, I found to be disconcerting – coming to an appliance near you. read full story / add a comment

Immigration police seized several families across Ireland this morning (Tue Oct 18th) and brought them to Dublin for summary deportation. Among those detained was the family of a writer. He had sent them to Ireland so that they would be safe from the repercussions of his writings which are critical of drug dealers in the country in which he resides. An attempted blockade of the Garda National Immigration Bureau premises in Dublin has resulted in arrests and is ongoing. read full story / add a comment |
