of the execution on November 2 1920 of James Daly who was one of the leaders of the Connaught Rangers’ mutiny in India. The mutiny was in reaction to the war being waged by the British government on the people of Ireland.

On Saturday 30th October 2010 the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) held a nationwide awareness-raising day to expose the contamination of the global diamond market with Israeli “blood diamonds” ahead of the annual meeting of the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KP) in Jerusalem on November 1st. To launch the Boycott Israeli Blood Diamonds campaign activists from the IPSC in Cork, Galway, Limerick, Wexford and Waterford activists from the IPSC handed out thousands of leaflets and collected petition signatures to while in Dublin, a blood-stained Marilyn Monroe even turned up to endorse the campaign saying "the fact that Israeli diamonds are sold as 'conflict free' means that diamonds can no longer be considered a girl's best friend!" read full story / add a comment

At a meeting held in Dublin last Sunday, 24th October, involving the People Before Profit Alliance, the Socialist Party, the Tipperary Workers and Unemployed Grou, and Cllr Declan Bree and his local group in Sligo, a historic decision was taken to establish a left alliance to contest the next general election and to take the first steps towards a new, left, anti capitalist formation to represent working people.

A prominent Chinese labour activist was sentenced on 20 October to three years in jail for “gathering a crowd to disrupt social order” .
Zhao Dongmin was arrested on 19 August last year after organizing more than 380 workers from about 20 state-owned enterprises (SOEs) to form a labour rights group tasked with overseeing and monitoring SOE restructuring, and reporting corruption and abuses of power.

The Shaanxi Union Rights Defence Representative Congress was formally banned by the city government of Xi’an on 27 July 2009. Zhao then wrote an open letter of protest to the State Council, the city, provincial and central committees of the Chinese Communist Party. About 100 people attended a meeting sponsored by Workers and Unemployed Action Group (South Tipperary) in Clonmel last night to discuss the alternative budget measures contained in “4Steps 2 Recovery”

To celebrate the launch of William Parry's book "Against the Wall", street artists gathered to create new works of solidarity, inspired by the book, in Dublin and Cork. Street Art events took place at The Bernard Shaw pub in Dublin and Fionn Barra's pub in Cork throughout the weekend with the slogan "To Exist is to Resist" forming the basis of their work.
