Since the international water conference in Dublin in 1992, the international community has continued to refuse (institutionally) to recognise the access to water as a human right, i.e. as a universal, impartible and untouchable right. A proposed resolution by Germany & Spain to include water as a universal right through the framework of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva
has been blocked by Canada & the USA. This might be because Canada has lots of H2O as the clean bit of the fluid is called by first worlders once they take out the oestrogen, cryptosporidium, residual heavy metals & artificial colourings. Third worlders have many words for water & don't often worry about the oestrogen, cryptosporidium & heavy metals due to the cholera thing which can sometimes worries them more than the lack of artificial colourings in their water which often gives it a brownish or greyish tint......This is quite normal.......Honestly it is.

Maureen Kenny Has died, a true lover of education and books, many will
have a memory of the Labyrinthe bookshop, the smell of the books and the
friendly family who ran it.

You could find yourself tripping into Mr Kenny's office and getting a lecture
on dropping out of college, work; and where the bestest poetry books were
kept.

Many of us miss the old shop with the low ceilings and the carpetted stairs
and Maureen always had a smile- did not matter if you were the Laureate
or a small writer, everyone was united by love of knowledge and books. read full story / add a comment

Bundoran has the most scenic views of the Donegal Bay, Dartry Mountains of Leitrim and a coastline accessible to everyone. We preserved our old historical buildings and respected our community atmosphere.

In the last twelve years Bundoran Town Council has allowed Planning Corruption erode the very HEART of Bundoran and now the greedy developers and certain Corrupt Councillors want to destroy our Foreshore not or enhancement but to built apartment blocks on the most beautiful coastline in Ireland. In the last twelve years the population of Bundoran has decreased now these greedy developers want to destroy Bundorans Sealife.

The Independent Workers’ Union urges all Trade Union member’s and Workers to campaign on behalf of a NO VOTE in the forthcoming E.U. Constitution referendum, now known as the ‘Lisbon Treaty’.
This Treaty poses a major threat to workers’ and personal freedoms. The I.W.U. and other European Trade Unions are very concerned at the potential annihilation of workers’ rights, pay and conditions by a number of concerning anti-Trade Union/anti-Workers measures contained within the Treaty. read full story / add a comment

Shell recently announced the names of local groups in Erris who they are going to fund, as part of the deal they arrived with government appointed mediator Peter Cassels in 2006.

Cassells, who admitted that there was no basis for mediation while Shell insisted on an onshore production pipeline and refinery, recommended that the company should pay money into the local community in an effort to turn public opinion in favour of the scheme.

Of the groups favoured with grants, only a handful were from the local parish of Kilcommon, which would bear the brunt of the environmental disaster that Shell's scheme would entail. Of these, local people laughed at some of the more obviously silly and fictional "groups", but people were genuinely puzzled by the inclusion of the Dooncarton Landslide Committee. This group, which is widely respected in the local area, has been working to rebuild the local cemetery which was badly damaged in 2003, when heavy rains swept part of the hillside down into the bay.

The German magazine "Stern" published a report on the supermarket LIDL in the last week which alledged the corporation had been spying on its employees. The story is now being taken up across Europe, where indeed workers shop in & work for the LIDL chain. The allegations are being supported daily by more and more evidence as can be seen by perusing the original articles at "Stern" complete with photos, a vid, extracts from internal memos, et cetera, so long & so forth.

Included in the internal memos were suggestions that menstruating women employees wear a coloured headband so managers could allow them extra "toilet time", time which would be denied male or non-menstruating employees. It gets worse.., "tattoos"........."wants higher wages"........"junkie friends"......... read full story / add a comment
