CACI - Providing Software for the Irish Cencus (and lots of other "defence software")
dublin / rights, freedoms and repression / feature Tuesday March 22, 2011 23:53 by Declan Cullen   text 26 comments (last - monday april 11, 2011 01:21)   image 1 image   video 2 video files
The people of Ireland should consider a Boycott in relation the upcoming Census in April 2011. The reason I say this is that the company contracted to carry out the Census is CACI UK who are a subsidiary of CACI international which through its various outsourcing has been accused of contributing to the torture of prisoners in Abu Ghraib in Iraq, something I myself am not happy about, and it will be one of the reason's why I will not be completing the Census form this time. read full story / add a comment

March 21 is the start of the New Year in Iran. IUF, Education International, the International Transport Workers’ Federation (the three international union federations with member organizations in Iran) and the ITUC together send a message of solidarity to all Iranian workers fighting for trade union rights and independent unions:

“Today, New Year in Iran, the international trade union movement sends fraternal greetings to you, our sisters and brothers, fighting for basic worker rights against an oppressive regime. For daring to speak out and to exercise your right to form trade unions, to represent and defend your interests and to bargain with employers, Iranian workers have been sacked, arrested as criminals, tortured and imprisoned. Some, like Kamangar*, have been executed; others await their execution; and the threat of death and possible judicial murder hangs over all those who seek to challenge misery and oppression by organizing at their workplace for collective action.

Gerry McGeough was convicted last month of attempted murder of a UDR soldier in 1981 and faces up to twenty years in jail. There is a widespread concern that his arrest is as a result of his campaigning against the Northern Ireland Police Force and about Sweden's release to the British authorities of an application for political asylum to that country in 1981, the contents of which were used to convict him. read full story / add a comment
