Ireland's first cannabis policy reform organisation, the Centre for Cannabis Policy Reform Ireland (CCPR) launched their website and campaign this week. The group, in close association with the Colorado-based Safer Alternative For Alternative Recreation (SAFER), who successfully campaigned to legalise the possession of less than an ounce of cannabis, aim to educate the public about the fact that cannabis is safer than alcohol, that prohibition is a failure, and that a system of regulation must be put in place. read full story / add a comment

A crowd of less than 800 people gathered at Parnell square for the annual IAWM march to commemorate the 3rd anniversary of the Iraq invasion on Saturday.

All the usual suspects turned out including the Labour Party, Socialist Party, SWP and CPI as well as the Cosaintori, PANA and “code pink” a womens anti-war organisation.

Anarchist youth had issued a call for a red and black bloc to meet at Parnell square and roughly 80 anarchists turned up. This contingent was easily the most vibrant and colourful part of the march with over twenty red and black flags flying and several large banners carried by the bloc including the WSM, Anarchist Youth and “Anarchists against the War” banners. The bloc slotted itself in at the front of the march for a change with about 50 people ahead of us. The trolley-based sound system blasted out Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now” as Gardai took up flank either side of us. The Garda presence seemed to be entirely concentrated around the red and black bloc with a CCTV camera mounted on a Garda van leading the march.

Approximately 400 people from various leftist groups gathered in Plac Zamkowy central Warsaw today to remember the third anniversary of the US led coalition forces invasion of Iraq on March 20th, 2003. Poland has a very pro-U.S. gvt. political playing field and initially sent 200 elite troops to partipate in the invasion. This was followed up with an additional 2,000 soldier reinforcements in August '03 to relieve beleagured occupying US forces in difficult Shia-dominated provinces in southern Iraq. read full story / add a comment
