Determined that there should be SOME kind of opposition in the Stormont Assembly, Eamonn McCann has agreed to stand for election to the Assembly. He points out that while the other parties are at each others' throats all the time about 'constitutional' issues, they are at one in implementing the neo-liberal agenda of privatisation and public sector cuts. As for imperialism, he argues that "The fight against imperialism in 2003 is a fight against US-led imperialism across the globe, or it is nothing. On Monday, November 3rd, the five Catholic Workers, otherwise known as the 'Pitstop Ploughshares', are back in the Dublin Circuit Court for a pre-trial hearing. The five - Karen Fallon, Nuin Dunlop, Deirdre Clancy, Ciaron O'Reilly and Damien Moran - disarmed a US naval plane at Shannon Airport last February and are facing up to ten years in prison on charges of causing approximately 2.5 million Euros worth of damage to the plane. The five claim that they acted on the Hebrew Scriptural imperative to 'beat swords into ploughshares.' read full story / add a comment
