Despite repeated attempts by the Office of Public Works (OPW) to move them on the Tara Solidarity Vigil remain camped out on the Hill of Tara. They have become a focus of opposition to plans to build a new motorway (M3) through the Tara valley. As opposition grows they have received increasing messages of support not just from Ireland but around the world also. Norwegians, in particular, have taken a keen interest in developments on the Hill due to a sense of shared history they have with Ireland.

In 1986, a Moroccan born Israeli named Mordechai Vanunu who had worked at Dimona Israel from 1976 to 1985, before moving to Australia, revealed that he had smuggled a Camera into the Top Secret Research Centre, in and under the Negev Desert. There was a much smaller reactor at Beersheba, called the KAMG, kure, Garny le Machkar, and had photographed 50 odd photos of the Top Secret processing plant. " Since last week the Labour Party has consistently argued for the closing off of
this loophole. For that reason when the Government was persuaded to deal with
it this week, last night we facilitated it being taken, which is the reason for us not
voting against the order of business.However , we have not seen the bill and there will be
little time to look at the issue. I urge the Tanaiste to cause the Minister for Justice , Equality

Five years on since the terrorist attacks of 9/11, the wars that precipitated from that act are now discussed in frustratingly candid terms. While the thousands of American deaths are fittingly remembered as avoidable tragedies, the military responses, claiming the lives of many more innocent people, are described as 'mistakes' and 'necessities'. read full story / add a comment
