Friends of the Earth has written to European environment ministers in advance of their arrival in Montreal calling on them to rethink the EU's negotiating strategy. The current approach risks the climate talks drifting into a dead end.

Minister Dick Roche, who has delayed his departure for Montreal until after the budget, received the letter on Tuesday afternon.

Oisin Coghlan, Friends of the Earth Director in Ireland, said

“The EU’s Environment Ministers must not forget that Europe has sent them to Montreal to secure a robust framework for negotiations to win the battle against global climate change. Their negotiators, who have been in Montreal for more than a week now, have instead prioritised an agreement that is acceptable to the Bush Administration. But the US negotiators have made clear they will water any deal down to voluntary action or nothing, making it worth less than the paper it's written on.” read full story / add a comment

Subject: Fw: Fw:eva

Eva was found one morning by a girl in her back garden in Ballinasloe, County Galway. This girl Rachel already had some rescued Greyhounds and poor Eva (as we named her) was badly injured and infected. She was brought to a Vet who said that the injuries to her ears were caused by Battery Acid or burning, as the hair around her ears was also synged. Her ears were septic , of a texture like charred fabric and one was burned right through with a gaping hole. The bluish ink from Greyhound Industry tatoos was apparent on the bits of her ear that were still hanging in tatters. Her left front leg had a large chunk of skin missing, it cannot be stitched and requires constant changing of dressings. Her ears were full of pus and she screeches if she thinks she is going to be lifted. read full story / add a comment
