offsite link ?It?s Time to Scrap the Asylum System? Fri Feb 21, 2025 17:17 | Will Jones
It's been exasperating to watch as, in defiance of the wishes of Western electorates, the cultural make-up of our countries is radically transformed. It's time to scrap the asylum system, says Lionel Shriver.

Germany's 'firewall' against the AfD is set to saddle voters with the same pro-migration Leftoid Government they're desperate to get rid of. When will the Right realise the Left has them over a barrel, asks Eugyppius.

Listening to the US Vice President's speech in Munich, Prof James Allan says he found himself muttering "my kingdom for a J.D. Vance" ? because he can't see one in the rest of the conservative anglosphere right now.

offsite link Trump?s Plan for Gaza Was a Stroke of Genius. His Plan for Ukraine, Not So Much Fri Feb 21, 2025 11:00 | Ian Rons
Sometimes Trump's mercantilist thinking is so radical as to be wildly, crazily brilliant, as with the Gaza Riviera plan. But on Ukraine it's letting him ? and the West ? down, says Ian Rons.

According to a new political science article highlighted in the Guardian, "Misinformation and radical-Right populism must henceforth be understood as inextricable". Apparently, everyone else always only tells the truth.

David Salgado was a seasonal agricultural worker who died in the course of his work as a 'jornalero', that is a seasonal migrant worker on an industrial farming operation. His death occurred in Sinaloa state in northern Mexico in January 2007. Deaths in farming are all too frequent worldwide but this case was different, David , who hailed from Guerrerro one of Mexico's poorest states, was eight years old.

Cover of Part 1 of the Report

This is part one of a two part report, based on the Report by The Commission of Investigation into the Catholic Archdiocese of Dublin. Part One deals with the generalities of the report – a damning indictment of the church in general for its handling of the reporting of clerical child sexual abuse, its cover up, and the comlicity (or otherwise) of the Gardaí. Part Two will look at the abuse, abuse, and more abuse handed out by individuals. Prepare yourself for some pretty sickening reading.

Raul with some of the Cards from Ireland

At the invitation of Guerrero based ´Tlachinollan Human Rights Centre´ I had the inspiring opportunity to witness an historic event last Wed (18th nov 2009): Two indigenous women, both former Amnesty International prisoners of conscience left their communities once more to make a trip to a Mexican Jail. This time however instead of being accompanied by their arresting officers, they went along with a group of local, national and international human rights organisations to make a solidarity visit to another indigenous activist and Amnesty International prisoner of conscience, Raul Hernandez.

View of Mathare built in a quarry

The 21st of November marks the United Nations ‘World television Day’.

Television can be a tremendous force for good. It can educate great numbers of people about the world around them. It can show us how much we have in common with our neighbours, near and far. And, it can shed light on the dark corners, where ignorance and hatred fester.

The television industry is also in a unique position to promote mutual understanding and tolerance -– with content that tells the stories not just about the powerful, but about the powerless, and not just about life in the world’s richest pockets, but also in the developing countries that are home to the majority of the world’s population’.
