At Shannon Sunnday three military charter flights landed in the space of 20 minutes. Two were passenger planes, and we saw HUNDREDS of troops in desert cammo (so did TG4’s camera crew. Then we saw a Cargo plane, operating for the US military. We photographed it, identified it, and then rang the local Garda station (on their direct line, not 999). We informed the Gardai of the plane, that we had reason to believe that it was carrying a large quantity of munitions, explosives or other weapons. And formally requested that they urgently inspect the aircraft. They did no such thing. It has been reported that large numbers of US troops have been staying in hotels in the Limerick/ Shaanon region. Apparently as a result of the breakdown of one of the transport planes up to 350 troops were driven by bus to various hotels in the region. At least there's one Union that still has the balls to do what it's supposed to do - namely looking after their members. The National Bus and Rail Union (NBRU) is not a member of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU) thank god! This 4 hour work stoppage this Wednesday the 15th is one up for the CIE workers and gives the 2 fingers to sell-out merchants such as O'Toole, Gergharty and Beggs and to you sell-out scoundrels such as Beggs I say f**k off!
