Any electrician knows that Lego bricks are genderless, not 'heteronormative', because each can 'mate' with any other. Perhaps Science Museum staff should study to be electricians and actually make themselves useful.

Around 800-1000 people converged on Dublin's city centre to participate in a 'street party' and to help us 'imagine what a city without cars could be like'. From the well-publicised meeting point at the GPO, the crowd moved to Burgh Quay where a barrier had been placed across the road. The fire brigade were brought out to break the barrier but it was there just long enough for the party to begin. A motley crew of actors, acrobats, performers, musicians, dancers, body painters, and children succeeded in creating a community space where normally there are cars and trucks belching out pollution. ... read full story / add a comment

Reclaim the Streets is a non-hierarchical, leaderless, openly organised, public group. No individual "plans" or "masterminds" its actions and events. RTS activities are the result of voluntary, unpaid, co-operative efforts from numerous self-directed people attempting to work equally together. ... read full story / add a comment

A Street Party is in full swing. 1000 people have reclaimed a major road and declared it a "street now open". Music, laughter and song have replaced the roar of engines. Road rage becomes road rave, as tarmac grey is smothered by the living colour of a festival. Single issue? Against the car? Global capitalism? For all of the mainstream media's attempt to put it in a box, for those involved it expresses much more... ... read full story / add a comment

I called 666 6666 and asked for the number of the Garda Complaints office. I was given 8728 666. "That's eight seven two eight, six six six", I mused. "No, triple six!" The garda replied. "Okay, six six six, the number of the beast, thank you!" Click! No response from the beasts at the GCO, so I called Directory Enquiries who gace me 666 9863. Is there a pattern developing with their numbers? Hmmmmm.... Criminal Investigations Office: 666 3344 Who is policing the gardaí? As a regular party-goer, I couldn't wait to reclaim the streets, though I was surprised that there was no real political agenda behind it - at least that was the opinion of the average, run-of-the-mill person who turned up. I enjoyed the dancing, and the different types of music, and the costumes and colour. And when the time came to move along, I went with the crowd - after all, it was just a good laugh, and the Gardai seemed pretty mellow about it all. Here I document the unexpected and unjustified police brutality suffered by the partygoers at the hands of Ireland's police force. ... read full story / add a comment

Great craic had by all who attended. Sun poked its head out onto the crowd of 200-ish, who were chilling out in the park listening to Bongo. Then acompanied by guitars, saxaphone, and a wicked drummer who nearly had a heart atack on stage from playing so fast! Garda presence was small and un-offensive. They acted fair and the day went off smoothly. "It isn't a riot without riot police" so the crowed were mellow. Nothing to do with the day that was in it- international cannabis liberation day ;-) ... read full story / add a comment

The Palestinians want their own country. There's just one thing about that: There are no Palestinians. It's a made up word. Israel was called Palestine for two thousand years. Like "Wiccan," "Palestinian" sounds ancient but is really a modern invention. Before the Israelis won the land in war, Gaza was owned by Egypt, and there were no "Palestinians" then, and the West Bank was owned by Jordan, and there were no "Palestinians" then. ... read full story / add a comment

The day was peaceful at the beginning and many different people from all walks of life partied. Live music, song and dance entetained us. But there is always a small minority who promote agrivation. as i was walking from the damn street massacre to the civic offices i saw a number of people who had been wearing "casual" clothes - trainers, jeans, etc (male and female) put on pig jackets and get their radios out. there was a clear undercover element there from the very start yesterday ; critical mass was tailed by two pig vans - while usually they only pick up on it from about half way on and tag along to the end. SO watch out in future, this is going to cause the pigs some serious hassle (anyone hear joe duffy today?) [their own fault of course], and they'll be looking to infiltrate what is obviously one of the most threatening political movements to emerge in years. ... read full story / add a comment
