.R. Miller is a mathematician and a theologian. He was active in Christian missionary work at a particular point of his life but he soon began to discover many inconsistencies in the Bible. In 1978, he happened to read the Qur'an expecting that it, too, would contain a mixture of truth and falsehood. ... read full story / add a comment

"War is the health of the state." -- Randolph Bourne (RADICAL WRITER) To the U.S. Civil War general, William Tecumsah Sherman is ascribed the saying, "War is hell," but, truth be told, war is not hell to all. War *is* hell to the poor, to the weak, to women, children, and the elderly. It is often hell to the young men who wage wars, who see and experience the inhuman horrors of war, and have to carry the physical and psychological scars of battle into their last days. ... read full story / add a comment

Excerpt: "Q: There is something surprising in the fact that you see the Palestinian threat as an existential threat. "A: The characteristics of that threat are invisible, like cancer. When you are attacked externally, you see the attack, you are wounded. Cancer, on the other hand, is something internal. Therefore, I find it more disturbing, because here the diagnosis is critical. If the diagnosis is wrong and people say it's not cancer but a headache, then the response is irrelevant. But I maintain that it is cancer. My professional diagnosis is that there is a phenomenon here that constitutes an existential threat." ... read full story / add a comment

Janine Allis-Smith, active with the CORE Campaign, Cumbria, displays a newspaper reporting the death of Ronald Marr, who hanged himself aged 19 after battling luekemia since the age of 5. Janine told us that Ronald had been the last survivor of a group of children that she took on a day out to London some years ago, the rest have all died. Ronald lived in a highly contaminated area. [... Soil samples taken by Greenpeace 11.5 km south of Sellafield, were 400 times higher than those taken 11 km from Chernobyl. These radiation levels are a result of nearly 50 years of reprocessing and have made the Irish Sea the most radioactively contaminated sea in the world. These levels would not be allowed inside Sellafield and are illlegal in BNFL's customer countries....] ... read full story / add a comment

Gordon Deegan's report quotes an Inspector Tom Kennedy who appears to have trouble with the meanings of words or else is trying to twist the truth. Inspector Kennedy labels Dubsky's non-violent direct action protest "extremely dangerous behaviour" and insinuates that this peaceful, principled and moral action was not "a peaceful protest". I publish the full text of this article below as it appears that only those with an account with the Indo can actually read the links. Please let me know if this is unwanted/unacceptable on Indymedia.ie. Personally I think that there's no problem in documenting the spin of corporate media, but I understand there may be different opinions and am prepared to go with the consensus. Deegan's article is pretty good in that it mentions that the protests are about the USAF abusing our neutrality at Shannon. ... read full story / add a comment

"All forms of Palestinian violence have to stop," Arafat's military chief, Abdel Razak Yehiyeh, told an interviewer. "All resistance acts that are characterized by violence, such as using arms or even stones ... are harmful." ... read full story / add a comment
