The delegates to the INTO conference in Galway delivered a stinging defeat to the US multinational. Last year controversy broke out at the INTO due to the sponsorship they were receiving from Coke, evident through the huge stand they had there. This year despite attempts to have motions rueld out of order at the Northern regional conference in Derry, a motion was put forward calling on the union to break off relations with Coke. The motion was overwhelmingly passed. So much so that the union leaders who had opposed the motion didn't even ask for a count. Though the motion doesn't mention support for the boycott it was motivated by concerns over the allegations against coke in Colombia. Last year one delegate asked whether the honour of the Irish trade union movement was to be forfeited for a free can of coke. This year a majority of delegates decided to tell their leadership no. ... read full story / add a comment ![]()

Good Friday at Shannon saw an encounter between Airport authorities and a peace activist that resulted in the shedding of a small amount of blood, and the passing of possibly hundreds of US troops and an unknown quantity of weapons and munitions on their way to the war and occupation of Iraq. There was not confrontation between the airport or Irish authorities and the US troops, who should have been arrested and interned under the Hague Convention V on neutrality. ... read full story / add a comment ![]()

Not only are our kids overweight, but they're as thick as bottled shite as well. But the teachers of ireland, are meeting these days at the Burlington Hotel for their annual conference to discuss how to get the parents / voters to place the blame properly. ... read full story / add a comment

I read that the Irish football team is going to Israel play a match on the 26th of March. Is the FAI in breach of it's own codes by allowing its's national team to play in a Terrorist State. Is it covert acceptance of the oppression and murder of Palestinians and theft of Palestinian land on a daily baisis and the shooting of school-girls in the face, and the bulldozing of houses and farms and an occasional peace activist. ... read full story / add a comment
