The irony of the British Queen The recent official visit by the British Queen to the Republic of Ireland led to many temporary restrictions on the freedom of Irish workers and the loss of income to many of them due to the disruption it caused in Dublin and other places in Ireland. The Royal Visit |

Jump To Comment: 1 2I am impressed for the first time in years finally we have someone on the left who is willing to admit that the Irish working class is extremely conservative. If we had more realistic analysis (and truth) such as this maybe some people would start listening to what the left had to say again.
Yes indeed.
At the minute the concentration is on the low-paid tourist sector, the sector this visit is supposed to generate tourists for, as they propose cutting their subsistence by slashing overtime rates so the 'hospitality industry' can pull our derailed economy out of the canyon. No way are the speculators, who stashed their loot offshore to play the next round of 'beggar the rest of us', to pay for their own business expenses. Once again, free-market in labour, socialise the costs to the wealth generators, and privatise all profits.
Nope, they just own the heaps that lie empty while WE pay to advertise THEIR fucking product, and be grateful for the chance to flunky if it comes by.
And today's Indo, gob-piece of Sir Anto(formerly the organ of William Martin Murphy, genius of the 1913 lockout)calls for cuts in the dole to incentivise us to work. Its a bit like a royal injunction to charge us for water during the famine, to motivate us to make sure our cake is washed down, in the interest of public health.
Wear and tear on the pacifism included.
