Public Meeting
Campaign for National Referendum on IMF cuts

Speakers:
Icelandic MP Lilja Mósesdóttir
Tom O'Connor, Economics Lecturer CIT

Monday April 4th 8PM
Metropole Hotel.

A public meeting will take place on Monday April 4th in the Metropole Hotel, MacCurtain Street at 8PM to press for a referendum calling for the rejection of the IMF austerity deal agreed with the previous Fianna Fail led government.

The cuts proposed by this deal would have a devastating impact on the Irish economy.

The meeting will be addressed by Icelandic MP Lilja Mósesdóttir, where a previous referendum has rejected the call for to use public funds to bailout the banks. On April 11th, voters will go to the polls on proposals to bail out their crisis bank ICESAVE.

After the fall of Iceland’s economy, Lilja Mósesdóttir was elected as a member of the Left-Green Movement to Iceland’s Parliament in 2009. As a member of Parliament, she served on the Committee on Economic Affairs and Development; the Political Affairs Committee; and is Vice President of the Assemby.
She resigned from Iceland’s coalition Government on the 14th of March 2011 in protest at the government breaking its promises to oppose the IMF deal for Iceland.
Following public pressure, on April 11th, voters in Iceland will go to the polls on proposals to bail out their crisis bank ICESAVE.

The Public Meeting will also be addressed by Tom O'Connor, lecturer in economics in Cork CIT Lecturer in Economics & Public Policy , who has consistently opposed the bank bailouts and the IMF deal, and has presented a credible alternative economics strategy.

This is an open meeting, and is the Cork launch of a national campaign to hold a referendum on the IMF deal.
