news report
Friday August 16, 2002 16:23 by Dorothy - RTS
Announcing poster design competition The next Reclaim the streets party will occur on Sunday September 22nd, assemble 2:30pm outside the stephen's green shopping centre. After the police violence of the last one, lets do what we can to show them that we haven't gone away. So come, be creative, be numerous and lets make it a damn good party! To publicise the next RTS we will be printing up a number of different poster, sticker and leaflet designs which will be posted across the city. The image above is just one of the designs, we hope to come up with many more. The image here is a low resolution jpeg, a printable version is available at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rts-dublin/files/RTS_2.pdf everybody is encouraged to download this file, print it out and stick it up locally. If you would like to try your hand at designing a poster for this next RTS, go for it! post a scaled down, low resolution image here, incorporating the details above, or else post a link to the file. Any posters that we like will be used in the promotional campaign and you will have the pleasure of seeing your design plastered all over the streets of Dublin. We will also put your design up on the internet so that people can download it and print it out. So even if you are on the other side of the world, you can contribute to making the next RTS in Dublin a success. |

Jump To Comment: 1 2 3 4 5Fair play keep up the struggle! As someone who participated in the May Day RTS, I'm delighted that you haven't bowed to continuing Garda intimidation and harrassment since May Day's brutal declaration of war by the establishment against Peaceful Protests and Street Parties. One thing though, and I have to be careful what I say here, but I notice that you're telling us to assemble at Stephen's Green Shopping Centre at 2:30PM. On the same day the Dublin Cycling Campaign (DCC) are planning a mass protest outside Iarnrod Eireann's (Irish Rail) HQ at Connolly Station. I hope the 2 events are not going to clash. Perhaps you can clarify this for us, either by replying publicly on this site or else Emailing me at my Email Address. Anyhow keep up the good work!
nice! going to start preparring now. lets all get organized and make this a big one. everyone really should come prepared for fun and festivites, and if everyone brings a little something of there own it'll all add up.
dig in for victory.
Hi Paul
As far as I know we were not aware that the Dublin cycling campaign were planning a protest for the 22nd. As you are probably aware it is car free day which is a traditional day for RTS protests, at least there was one last year, on O Connell st, which was the first Irish RTS to attract significant police violence. Can you publish the details of the DCC protest? Will it be possible to hold it earlier in the day so that RTS people will be able to make it along? What are the plans for the DCC protest? Is it merely a rally or is there some sort of direct action planned? At the last RTS there was a Critical Mass beforehand which converged with the RTS party on Burgh Quay, perhaps the DCC would be interested in doing something similar after the rally? RTS is, as always, very open to other groups and campaigns participating, distributing leaflets, setting up stalls and especially doing stuff like street theatre and putting on shows. If the DCC is interested in coordinating with us, perhaps you could give us details about how to contact the campaign so that we can ensure that our actions don't clash and that the protests are greater than the sum of their parts.
Let's keep it non political when the police attack us! Hug some trees against capitalism.. you guys are worse than hippies coz you should know better
You seem to be misguided about the purposes of RTS, we do not go out looking for a ruck, we want to have a street party. I'd say a succesful street party should, if at all possible try to avoid getting all of the participants beaten up by the police.
Also who ever said we were going to run away if the pigs attack? You seem to be responding to a comment made by an indymedia poster who is not part of the RTS organisation. We are aiming to avoid getting beaten up by the police but this does not mean we will run away.
