SOLIDARITY WITH THE SAHARAWI AGAINST OCCUPATION AND REPRESSION

Protest in response to the Moroccan attack on Gdim Izik camp in El Aaiun, and the countless human rights violations carried out by the Moroccan Army which has led to a the death of many innocent Saharawi Civilians.

Many Saharawi have been killed and hundreds more have been seriously injured and with the Moroccan Authorities preventing international journalists and human rights workers from entering Western Sahara, the Saharawi people are being force to indure a life without their basic human rights.

Amnesty International have called for a full independent investigation into the Moroccan attack on the Gdim Izik 'freedom' camp. Malcolm Smart, Amnesty International's director for the Middle East and North Africa, "this was clearly a very serious incident and one that threatens to fuel further tension in Western Sahara."

Western Sahara was formerly known as Spanish Sahara when it was colonised by Spain. The Spanish state left after a fierce struggle by the Saharawis, the most recent being under the leadership of the Polisario Front. Morocco marched in after Spain left and the Polisario fought them. A ceasefire was brokered by the UN but no progress has been made towards Morocco leaving the territory and their repression is intensifying.
