Justin Trudeau wants to prorogue Parliament to buy time before the election. Voters will punish him for it, says Prof James Allan, but it's a mistake he must be allowed to make without activist judges getting in the way.

Jordan Peterson should make his mind up about Christianity, critics say. Prof James Alexander disagrees: he's a profound Jungian explorer who wants to help a secularised world see why Christianity still matters.

Another Shell to Sea Campaigner Imprisoned.

category mayo | environment | news report author Wednesday February 24, 2010 19:07author by Niall Harnett - Shell to Sea / Rossport Solidarity Campauthor email rossportsolidaritycamp at gmail dot comauthor phone 085 1141170 Report this post to the editors

Eoin O'Leidhin of the Rossport Solidarity Camp has been imprisoned for non-payment of a 250 euro fine.

Eoin O'Leidhin has joined fisherman Pat 'the Chief' O'Donnell at Castlerea prison today. Eoin was convicted of Section 8 of the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act 1994 for 'failure to comply with the directions of Garda' at a protest outside the Shell site Glengad on 30th August 2008.

Garda Sean Cunnane, who likes to ham it up as he whinges to the courts, convinced Judge David Anderson that Eoin's behaviour was a crime.

The short video below shows the true flavour of the occasion.

Shell to Sea campaigners had blocked the entrance to the Shell on 30th August 2008, while Eoin attended quietly on the fringes of the protest. He was minding his own business and got into a ditch to avoid any confrontations with Gardai. Garda Cunnane ordered him to leave the area (the ditch), with no good reason and Eoin found himself the victim of another spurious prosecution.

He was fined 250 euro, or 5 days imprisonment in default of payment.

Eoin has refused to pay the fine.

Eoin has been approached by Gardai to pay the fine on a number of occasions, but has declined.

By arrangement, Gardai arrived at the Rossport Solidarity House this morning at 9am and Eoin was arrested and detained to Belmullet Garda station.

He has since been taken to Castlerea prison, where he will remain imprisoned for up to 5 days.

I long ago lost the patriotic notion that our country is a democracy. With all the crimes of Fianna Fail and the ruination of what used to be a proud people, i like many others live in despare that Ireland can recover it's pride. It seems that no matter what the criminals that run this country do, the people will not rise against them.
All the SHell to sea campaigners and supporters are heroes just like Michael Davitt and time will vindicate them.
The people that are responsible for the continuing crimes against the Rossport comunity should be punished for their crimes. I hope that someone is keeping an accurate archive of all the Gardai, judges, and politicians that have proven themselves to be criminals.
My admiration and best wishes to all the people that are in jail. I hope you keep your courage and tenacity because you are the real Irish people and your country needs more like you.
THE SILENCE OF THE PEOPLE IS DEAFENING.

The silence of our writers and artists, and the collective voices of the Irish Writers' Union and of Aosdána is quite deafening.

I agree With Fred.
I'm appalled at the severe lack of confrontation in the art world to the injustices and outright facist conduct of the Irish Government and its agents the Guardians Of The Peace, our elected gombeen men and women and of course-RTE (Refuse to Tell the Electorate). There is a huge need from the sleeping creative world to express itself, or is it so demoralised and de motivated by the likes of Louie \walshs carnival of insult posing as new art?? Jasus wept...
Good luck Eoin, your better than those who accuse you and lock u up. They are cowards to address their own concience, and fail to fit into the description of being classified as men.....Poltry, dressed up in wigs and uniforms and handed authority from Shells Fools...

When the last leaf falls,
When the last fish has been caught,
Then, and only then will they realise,
That you cannot eat money.......

Just let people know that I got out from Castlerea yesterday after doing 3 out of the 5 day sentence. Thanks for all the good wishes.
I was in the cell with Pat for one night and he is in good form and very appreciative of the letters sent in and events going on to support him. He gave me a message to post up, which I will write up later.
