AI is a misnomer, says Joanna Gray. It's not and will never be 'intelligent'. The fact that human 'super recognisers' are needed to spot the mistakes that AI makes at least 25% of the time should be proof enough.

Solidarity Books (Cork) is up and running!

category cork | anti-capitalism | news report author Thursday December 17, 2009 12:03author by Cork WSM - Workers Solidarity Movementauthor email solidaritybooks at gmail dot com Report this post to the editors

Radical books and organising for revolution finds a new home in Cork ...

A new, alternative meeting space and bookshop has just opened on Douglas Street, Cork. This is early days but we want to get the word out that his new initiative needs you and your support!

We have great things planned as this is a big space with a number of rooms. Here’s the idea so far:

Bookshop. Part of the area is given over to a bookshop - a very necessary venture given the dearth of alternative political and anti-establishment writing now available in the Cork area. In time we hope to expand the range of books available . We also hope to sell and distribute all the major left and alternative papers. (So if you are involved with one, bring it to us.)

Meeting Rooms. There has been a problem in Cork for some time for campaigns and for groups to find a suitable place to meet in. We hope the new space can fulfil some of this need and provide cheap and suitable place meeting. To organise anything like this just call in and see us to book a slot.

Film night and ‘other’ nights. We want to see more radical activity in Cork. One idea already about to reach fruition is an alternative film night. This will fulfil a dual function - providing fun, entertainment and education and also raise funds to pay for the renting of the space.

How To Find Us

Where we are: 43 Douglas Street, Cork. (Douglas St runs parallel to George's Quay which is on the South Channel of the River Lee. We’re close to the city centre.)
Opening Times: We are getting underway. For the moment we are open 12.30 to 6 pm, Monday to Saturday.

I visited Solidarity Books last week. They have an excellent selection of left-wing publications and books (lotsa Chomksy,
Zinn and Richard Seymour ) -they even have a few of the old Cork Workers' Club booklets from the 70s. They
also have a general selection of second-hand books as well. Nice place-visit there if you get a chance.

Do you have any of the books of Marx Engles, Lenin or Mao Tse Tung? The Quay Co-Op used to have a great selection a few years ago.

CAZ closed down September 2008. There has been some efforts to reopen it as a social space but nothing concrete (as far as I know as of yet)
