Press Release/ Preas Raiteas

R.N.U Kildare Pledge Full Support To Green Isle Dispute/Strike.

It has come to the attention of members of Republican Network for Unity in Kildare, of an ongoing dispute between management and the workers of the Green Isle Foods chain in Naas County Kildare.

The T.E.E.U is in official dispute with Green Isle Foods, Naas. [Part of Northern Foods UK Ltd] The dispute centres on a mistake by the company’s I.T department, which sent sensitive boardroom and financial information about the restructuring of the maintenance department, with the proposed loss of 6 members jobs. When this information was shared with other members in the shop, suspensions and dismissals followed for alleged wrong doing when clearly this was managements mistakes and they were now attempting to shift blame to the workers on the shop floor. The error was exposed, when an Engineer and secretary of an executive Director had the same first letter in their forename and the same surname. Therefore Green Isles future plans was exposed to the engineer by fault of the company.

So far there is 40 members involved in the dispute and we in Republican Network for Unity, wish to show our support for the workers and will be joining them in their picket until these workers get their jobs back. The company has shipped in 40 British workers to take their places. These strike breakers also known as Scabs, are unfortunately working against there working class colleagues, for a company that only has its financial interests at heart.

Two of the shop stewards have been placed under the disciplinary procedures since their strike started on Sunday August 16th. One of the stewards has placed a large sign on his car stating British Scabs Out.

Republican Network for Unity Kildare pledge our full support to the working class people of Green Isle Foods and urge the people of Kildare to show your support to these employee’s and oppose the greedy and malicious wrong doings by the Higher management of Green Isle Foods Naas County Kildare. Republican Network for Unity will stand shoulder to shoulder with these people in the near future as these 24 hour strikes continue.
