Parents Group Meeting - 2pm Seomra Spraoi

category national | miscellaneous | event notice author Thursday June 11, 2009 20:00author by cmaco - Parents Group Report this post to the editors

The best of us, at times, can be made feel isolated or alienated for thinking outside the box on issues that effect us & our children's lives.
poster_pareentrs.jpg

Whether its the mass media trying to manipulate you and your kids, gender stereotyping from the moment of birth, marketers targeting your kids as evolving consumers, a domesticising education system, authoritarian parenting, whatever negatives... the landscape can seem bleak and lonely if you're questioning issues like these and feeling alone in your thoughts & efforts.

Instead of wallowing in the negatives of modern parenting, we think its important to open up a space where parents from diverse backgrounds can share positive experiences of different parenting and education practises as well as offering solidarity to others of like minds.

We plan to discuss many of the possibles & impossibles of parenting, alternative means of educating, kids music, unschooling, homeschooling, radical parenting, alternatives to punishment, teens, anti authoritarian parenting, noTV, natural birthing, Steiner/Waldorf education, food, surviving the toddler years...

the list is endless!

Come along to our first informal meeting and share your experience, ideas and solidarity

When - Sat. 27th June 09 @ 2pm

Where - Seomra Spraoi, 10 Belvidere Court, Dublin 1

Oh' & Don't forget the kids!.....there'll be toys & space to play !

Directions: Walk north along Gardiner St, past Mountjoy Square and turn right at the next laneway(Belvidere Court). Seomra Spraoi is about halfway down the lane on the right hand side(number ten).....................

I know there is an steiner/ waldorf kindergarden of some shape or form at seomra spraoi...but this sounds like an additional interesting way of creating a zone that conscious, radical or progressive parents can exchange experiences and solidarity while their kids mix with. Depending on the response some collective action might even surface. Will do my best to make it there!
