RSF LAUNCH CAMPAIGN WITH PLEDGE TO REFORM COUNCIL SERVICES
Party leader predicts swing from Fianna fail to honest local candidates
Limerick Tuesday 28th April - Party President Ruairi O’Bradaigh who forecast a massive swing against Fianna Fail to candidates who are honest with the electorate launched the local election campaign for Republican Sinn Fein in the Mid-West in Limerick today.
Speaking at the launch in the Gaelic League Hall in Thomas Street, the veteran Republican leader said that voters are now seeking strong local candidates who are unafraid to tackle the greed and corruption rampant in sections of society.
Over the past few years our candidates have shown that they are not afraid to take on the unpopular issues and make a stand on behalf of the local community, he said.
The problems facing Limerick such as the rise in the jobless, cutbacks in welfare allowances, the crime rate, anti-social behaviour and the slow pace of Regeneration all need strong local voices to ensure reform and that council services are centred on people and not on faceless and unaccountable management.
Our community activists on the ground have seen how the Limerick Regeneration Boards have misled the people of the troubled housing estates of the city and this is an issue they will be focussing on in the election campaign.
Three candidates are running for Republican Sinn Fein in the Limerick County Council and the Limerick City Council local elections and they are appealing for your support to ensure that there is a radical voice brought to local politics.
Limerick City Council candidate Sean O’Neill is a well-known activist in the south ward of Limerick, ranging from his home place of Prospect to Ballinacurra Weston, Hyde Road, Janesboro, Rathbane and Southill.
Involved in trade unionism and local political activity for many years, he holds firm views on the problems facing the people of Limerick South and says that the present politicians have failed and it is time for changes in the Limerick City Council.
We are fast becoming a two-tier society with the ordinary people now having to pay for the abuses of the wealthy. A vote for me is a vote for a new and more equal Limerick.
Mick the Quill Ryan is from Ballynanty and has been active in local community affairs for many years including being a soccer team manager and mentor in Moyross.
Seamus O’Suilleabhain from Broadford in County Limerick is a well-known publican and local historian who has taken part in many local events commemorating Republican history in the county.
Paddy Kenneally in Clare Republican Sinn Fein Clare Chairperson Paddy Kenneally is to contest the local elections in North Clare.
Mr Kenneally who has been involved in Republican and Trade union politics for many years feels now is the right time to give the people of North Clare the option of the Republican alternative.
The recent abandoning of Ennis General Hospital & the Shannon Airport issue will form some of my platform along with unemployment childcare and the drug scourge in our communities.
