Dublin - Event Notice Thursday January 01 1970 - The Rescue -![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() --- Merrion Square --- All Night Event --- People, Voices and Volunteers Needed. The Rescue will be a rally held in 100 cities around the world on the 25th of April to attract media and political attention to this issue and pressure the government to commit support to the protection of civilians in war-affected zones and see the arrest of Joseph Kony. Hundreds of people, young and old, will symbolically abduct themselves and sleep outside in solidarity with the child soldiers until a figure of cultural or political influence arrives to rescue us and make a public statement showing support for our cause. Invisible Children is a global social and political movement that seeks to create awareness about the war in central east Africa through the creative use of media. The Lord’s Resistance Army, a rebel army led by Joseph Kony, has been waging a war for over 23 years, affecting thousands of civilians in Uganda, Sudan, the Central African Republic and the Congo. Children are the most affected - the LRA has been, for many years, abducting children from their homes to become child soldiers. It will start from St Patricks Cathedral at 3pm. From there the group will march to Merrion Square where they will "abduct themselves" in the park for the night until they are "freed" through media awareness or intervention by a figure of cultural or political influence. It may take a few hours, it may take all night.... either way.... the statement will be made. We hope that there will be entertainment throughout the event with local musicians and artists joining in to create awareness of the cause. Also we will be urging all participants to create some form of document, be it a letter/picture/painting or however you wish to express yourself and your opinions about the situation in Uganda, and it will be passed to local Government officials who can then create some political action on the situation. Simply the more people that talk about the situation the better. Do you know somebody involved with medias? |
