Who will the union speaker be?

author by Kevin T. Walsh - Social Justice and Ethics: Dignity publication date Wed Apr 15, 2009 12:19author address author phone Report this post to the editors

I think this meeting is essential in the current climate. The weather is chronic, the recession digs deep, and Mary Lou loves to show that style and grace - the Sinn Fein Lady of Fashion. Now I don't know how the people of Finglas will judge this but the question asked is (on the above posting) - Who will be the Unionist Speaker......

Well, I don't know if the question is serious or sarcastic so lets go both roads.

Seeing that the Chuckle brothers have retired from the Music Industry and have been replaced by the Grim Reepers, I think Ian Paisley jnr. would fit the bill perfectly, throw in Willie MacCrae - speaking about the Harp and maybe even he music of Tara Hall in years gone by. Also Sinn Fein may invite Lady Hermon and she could well give a speech on how to use Dublin bus to do your cross border shoppng.

Then Joe Higgins could come along as the only socialist left in Ireland and give a speech on our patriots, crossing the border on a daily basis, fighting like cats and dogs over a car space, in Newry shopping centre.

But on a serious note: I think it would be great if some members of Stormont came down because if there ever was a climate for diversity and an exchange of ideas for cross border trade - that time is now. Small businesses on both sides of the divide now could come together, share ideas, transform them into creating employment. Yesterday on RTE radio, as one economist said, it will be small businesses that will help get us out of this recession.

So the above question and it is only one line in the above posting is brilliantly put......it definitely shows diversity and transparency and how far we as a Nation we have become to invite a Unionist down to Finglas to give a speech on whatever Topic.

Well done to the above posting.

And off we go today ,our clothing from China or Bulgaria ,our Mo - Mo from The Land Of The Rising Sun, sox from Scotland ,Shoes from THE E.U. ,
and my computer from Limerick . In other words before there is nothing left that is produced in Ireland except the pint of Guinness or Milk , the politicians
would do well to show up in an oul Shamrock Car wrapped up in Arans and Tweed and then maybe ,just maybe we will allow the same 'sellers of spoof'
a few minutes grace before we are sold another Pig In A Poke .

The Trade Union Speaker will be Matt McCormack. He worked with SR Technics and was very involved with the union there.

So the trade union speaker is Matt. He is in Sinn Fein, he ran for election last time. Why does the sign not say that?

Hi, appreciate your comment x, but when we were pulling this together we were debating who to try and get in. We knew we had links to the Trade unions who would send along a speaker. the main unions have no problem doing this and have done so before. But finally we choose to go with matt. the reason was that he works and SR Technics and is being made redundant, therefore he is in a similar position to many in the area and we feel his experiences would benefit the meeting. When he speaks he will be focusing on what he adn SR employees have gone through.

If we were trying to manipulate it, we would have put a speaker from SR Technics on the poster and left it at that.

believe me this is a genuine attempt to get a debate going in the area. We have sent out invitations to businessess and councillors in the area and we wish to see as broad a range of opinions there as possible.

At the end of the meeting it is hoped different people and groups can come toghether to form an independent group pushing an agenda for jobs. If youcan come along and see what you think.
