Tibetan Community and Tibet Supporters in Ireland to protest on 10th March, 2009
Protest against 50 Years of Brutal Occupation of Tibet
To mark the 50th anniversary of Tibetan National Uprising, Tibetan Community in Ireland will hold a protest in Dublin on 10th March, 2009.
In 2008, the World witnessed Tibetan Monk, Nun, Men, Women & Children across all three traditional provinces of Tibet rise up against the Chinese rule in Tibet. Chinese government reacted with brute force against the peaceful protesters which left over 200 Tibetans dead and a thousand Tibetans injured.
This year peaceful protests have already begun ahead of the 50th anniversary of Tibetan National Uprising in March. More than hundred monks of Lustang Monastery in Mangra County protested peacefully on 25th February, 2009 in solidarity with those who were killed by Chinese armed personnel in last year's uprising. On 27th February, 2009 Chinese armed police shot at a Tibetan monk after he had set himself alight in protest in Ngaba County. Some Tibetans in Lithang County in Sichuan Province were beaten up for staging peaceful protest on 15th February, 2009. Till now 21 Tibetans have been arrested from this area alone.
According to a report by the Tibet Daily, Communist Party’s official mouth piece in Tibet, on 19th February, 2009 Chinese leaders ordered authorities to "mobilize and fully deploy" troops ahead of the 50th anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising to “firmly crush” down any protest. We urge the International Community to put pressure on the Chinese leadership so that a repeat of last year’s brutal crackdown can be prevented.
To mark the 50th anniversary of Tibetan National Uprising, Tibetan Community in Ireland will hold a protest in Dublin on 10th March, 2009.
