The Science Museum has repeated the claim that Roberta Cowell was Britain's 'first transgender woman'. This is false, says Zack Stiling. She was biologically female. Worse, she would have hated the trans movement.

online demonstration

against airport expansion

a call for solidarity action is coming from frankfurt/germany in support of the struggle against profit driven expansion of frankfurt airport

i am posting a link here which calls for an 'online-demonstration' in relation to the expansion of frankfurt airport. the struggle around the airport in frankfurt that took place in the late 70's and early 80's had a huge impact on the political landscape in the state of hessen and the wider german nation. it was a massive crystalization-point of resistance against profit driven developments for a whole generation.
when the political establishment in germany used their police-forces to battle through their project at the time, they were however forced themselve by the opposing masses to promise no further development of the airport would happen in the future.
not yet 20 years later, the same political parties who gave this very guarantee broke their word and pushed for another runway to be built, destroying another few hundred hectar of forestry in one of the most densely populated areas in germany - profit as the only rationale behind it.
there has been years of negotiations over this renewed expansion and all mediation efforts (mediation: we tell you what to do, you agree, presto!) were in vain. the situation is highly alike to the one in mayo.
the area in which the new runway is supposed to be built is now squatted by a number of people and they have established themselve in a solidarity camp in the forest.
from next week on they fear the possiblity of police forces trying to chase them out of their camp. there is a call for solidarity action coming from the camp and one of the proposals is the aforementioned 'online-demonstration'. here the link:

there is also some information available in english on the webpage of the camp:
