category international | anti-war / imperialism | news report author Thursday January 08, 2009 19:48author by TD - Free Palestine Campaign Report this post to the editors

Some Israelis are not prepared to stand idly by!

Organised by the Israeli Courage to Refuse group, some 200 people protested outside the Israeli Ministry of Defence this evening against the wanton killing in Gaza, considerably down from the 10,000 who attended last Sunday's demo but in the light of last Tuesday's protest in Jaffa and yesterday's in Tel Aviv, the numbers were still heartening.

Israeli progressives were in attendance: from Yesh Gvul/Courage to Resist activist and Nobel Peace Prize nominee, David Zonsheine, former Knesset Member, journalist and founder of peace group Gush Shalom, Uri Avnery, Israeli Anarchist Against the Wall activist, Jonathan Pollack and Yossi Guttermann of Ta'ayush (coexistence).

While decent Israelis were protesting in Tel Aviv, an Irishman, Dr David Briscoe, came on Liveline from Tel Aviv to defend the Zionist aggression. David Briscoe is the son of Lord Mayor Ben Briscoe and grandson of the Dublins first Jewish Lord Mayor, Robert Briscoe. Davids brother Daniel also lives in Tel Aviv. The rest of the Briscoe family live in Dublin and according to Joe Duffy they have been contacting RTE all week.
