Mayo - Event Notice Thursday January 01 1970 IPSC Film Screening: The Iron Wall (plus Q&A with director Mohammad Alatar)
What: IPSC Film Screening: The Iron Wall (plus Q&A session with director Mohammad Alatar)
Where: Mayo County Library, John Moore Road, Castlebar, Co. Mayo
When: 8pm, Sunday 12th October
The Iron Wall About the film:
In 1923, Vladmir Jabotinsky – father of the Zionist rightwing – wrote: "[Israeli] Zionist colonisation… can proceed and develop only under the protection of a power that is independent of the native population – behind an IRON WALL, which the native population cannot breach."
From that day on, these words became the official and unspoken policy of the Zionist movement and, later, the State of Israel. Colonies, often referred to as "settlements," were used to solidify the Zionist foothold throughout historic Palestine.
Following the 1967 occupation of the West Bank and Gaza, more than 200 settlements and outposts have been built in these territories housing nearly half a million settlers, in violation of international law. The Iron Wall exposes this phenomenon and follows the timeline, size, and population of the settlements, reveals how their construction has been a cornerstone of Israeli policy, and demonstrates how the Wall secures them as permanent and irreversible facts on the ground.
This documentary warns that a contiguous and viable Palestinian state is becoming no longer possible, and that the chances for a peaceful resolution of the conflict are slipping away.
The Iron Wall features interviews with prominent Israeli and Palestinian peace activists and political analysts, including Jeff Halper, Akiva Eldar, Hind Khoury, and others. Also included are eye-opening interviews with Israeli settlers, soldiers, and Palestinian farmers.
Praise for The Iron Wall
"The best description of the barrier, its routing and impact is shown in the film The Iron Wall." - Former US President Jimmy Carter
"The Iron Wall is a highly recommended film for anyone concerned with the quest for a just and peaceful resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict - a film that takes a clear stand while showing genuine empathy for both sides." - Hillel Schenker, Co-Editor for Palestine-Israel Journal
"This is a powerful film exposing one of the most pressing issues of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. It is imperative that it gets a wide audience, and that efforts are mobilized to subvert a catastrophic outcome." - Jean-Jacques Joris, head of the Swiss Representative Office to the Palestinian Authority

Jump To Comment: 1It really is surprising why with so much more difference between Israel and Palestine, those giving up on a two state solution - and they are Arabs not Israeli Jews - want a one state solution with Israel 's Hebrew speaking Jews whom they hate and despise, instead of re-joining Jordan's Sunni Moslem Arabic speakers with whom they lived without a thrown stone for twenty years in 1947 to 67?
Can the one staters explain why Ireland could not stay in Great Britain? Pakistan in India? Slovakia in Czechoslovakia? and Poland in Russia? People need a spot of their own for themselves which is why ostensibly you are going on about Palestine. It is a pity you do not see that it was because the Arabs of all categories and status would not allow that to the Jews under UN 181 that the Palestine Arabs have been up a creek of their own making these sixty years.
The cream of the joke is that for much of the late century Jews were jeered in the streets to go to Palestine; and now they are there you can't stand that. Talk about, "Nowt so queer as folk!!" Perhaps Ireland should have let in more German Jewish refugees before 1939, than Belgian Catholic Nazis after 1945? FDA
