There's a climate emergency, so cough up, say insurers. It hasn't stopped them raking in billions, notes Chris Morrison. And no wonder: weather losses are actually down compared to 35 years ago. Time for a bit of honesty?

Is democracy dying? That's what everyone is saying. Killed by populism, apparently. Prof James Alexander suspects the educated classes may not know what they're talking about.

Dublin Solidarity Vigil - Tuesday - Reports and Pics

category dublin | rights, freedoms and repression | news report author Wednesday September 17, 2008 00:55author by Starstruck - Dublin Shell to Sea Report this post to the editors

The daily vigil continued today in Dublin as the security operation against Shell to Sea escalates

A large crowd assembled at 6pm today to show solidarity for Maura Harrington and the Shell to Sea cause and outrage at the continuing situation in North West Mayo.
A Shell to Sea activist was accosted and arrested for refusing to give his name by two special brnachers after the vigil as he was walking down the street.
Intimidation of this kind is unfortunately to be expected as the state uses last nights bomb threat to increase the pressure on the S2S activists and supporters.
The vigil continues today at 6pm and there will be a 24 hour fast and film screening beginning 6pm Friday should Mauras action be ongoing at that stage.

A large crowd assembled at 6pm today to show solidarity for Maura Harrington and the Shell to Sea cause and outrage at the continuing situation in North West Mayo.
Placards bearing Mauras image, banners and messages of solidarity were displayed and flyers were handed out to passing pedestrians and motorists.
Numbers continue to rise as the situation worsens with the continuing and unnecessary presence of the Solitaire in Killybegs maintaining Maura on her hunger strike protest.
The vigil continues today at 6pm and there will be a 24 hour fast and film screening beginning 6pm Friday should Mauras action be ongoing at that stage.
There will be a demonstration held at Shell HQ this Saturday at 1pm demanding an end to the crisis and a resolution to the dispute.

A Shell to Sea activist was accosted and arrested for refusing to give his name by special branch police after the vigil as he was walking down the street.Intimidation of this kind is to be expected as the state uses last nights bomb threat to increase the pressure on the S2S activists and supporters.
Also tonight, checkpoints were set up on all of the streets around Corrib House as the Gardai attempted to gather info on last nights incident.
If only the same precision was given to the blatant violations of law committed by Shell and their partners up until now in North West Mayo.

The struggle continues.
