"We are delighted to have moved into new premises," says poet, critic and Director of the Centre, Fred Johnston. "We are upstairs, first floor, at 27 Nuns Island, just round the corner from our old office. We're still very much centre-city."

The Centre is still pursuing Galway City Council to provide even more adequate premises, possibly with reading rooms, and to this end gave a very promising presentation to the City Council some time ago.

"More and more, and particularly through our newsletter, 'The Word Tree,' the Centre has become established and accepted as the focal-point for literary activities in the West of Ireland, and not just in the Galway region, as our reach is much wider than that."

The Centre is funded by the Arts Council, Galway City and County Councils, Poetry Ireland and individual contributions: Easons, for instance, will sponsor the upcoming Alannah Hopkin reading in September 12th. The Centre operates a 'Friends of the Centre' scheme, details of which can be obtained from Marvelle Maguire or Fred Johnston at 091.533594 or 087.2178138.
