From handing over the Chagos Islands to compensating Gerry Adams, Starmer's decisions owe more to human rights lawyers than sound politics. He needs to sack his chum Lord Hermer before he shipwrecks his Government.

One figure that has been repeatedly cited in the grooming gangs debate is that 1 in 73 Muslim men in the town of Rotherham has been prosecuted for grooming gang offences. However, this figure is slightly misleading.

Anti War Exhibition Fundraisers

category national | anti-war / imperialism | event notice author Monday June 09, 2008 17:51author by Michael GAllagher - AWEPIX (r) Photographerauthor email libertypics at yahoo dot ieauthor phone 086 4048249 Report this post to the editors

Table Quiz.....

We need to raise at least €7,000 to cover costs of showing the Anti War Photography Exhibition, 'Images of Resistance' -inside and outside of Iraq- in Manhattan, New York.

Teacher's Club,
39 Parnell Square, Dublin `1.
Thursday, 3rd July.
8.30 -1am. €6 per person...teams of 4/5....spot prizes and music.

'Images of Resistance -inside and outside of Iraq', is the title of of an anti war photography exhibition that will be shown in the lead up to the US presidential election from October 1st - November 4th 2008, in the Gallery 1199, Manhattan, New York.
This gallery is owned by the SE11 trade union which represents over a million service and health workers (most of them immigrants or descendants of immigrants) in the USA. Recently the union pledged it's support to Barack Obama for the US presidential election.

The main purposes of the exhibition -through the medium of print and slide/dvd photography with audio commentary- is to help raise consciousness and awareness in the public of the opposition to wars, the plight of the people in war torn countries, the real reasons behind wars, the effects of war and the situations soldiers find themselves in.
I am in contact with soldiers serving or who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan etc, who's photography will form part of the documentary. We also have some images from Palestine etc included.

Dennis Halliday (who resigned because of the lies from the Bush administration during 'the weapons of mass destruction controversy), the former UN Assistant Secretary-General and ex-UN Humanitarian Co-ordinator for Iraq and/or former US Attorney General, (under the LBJ administration) Ramsay Clarke (who is now an anti war and anti Bush campaigner), will be giving of their time to open the exhibition.
The costs to stage the work in New York including printing, framing, travel expenses etc, will be at least €7,000.

We are organising three fund raisers to help with some of the costs, we don't expect a positive response from the arts council grant application.

The events will be **-during a short showing of some of the work in Dublin before New York- a lecture on the work and travels by one or more of the photographers, a table quiz and a music/comedy gig. A lot of the exhibition work was destroyed after a burglary in my former flat.
If you can help out in any way with sponsorship, names of potential sponsors, a donation, or a dig out with the fund raisers, advice etc, we would be very grateful. A detailed list of costs can be had on request.

This exhibition will be touring in countries that have any involvement in any wars or the arms industry and I have taken it on as a labour of love and commitment for the rest of my life.
A company is about to be set up in the name of 'AWEPHOTOS' (Anti War Exhibition Photos) and we hope it will grow into a major part of the anti war campaigns around the world.
If you would like to make a donation to the funding of the upcoming exhibitions/tours (I am looking at galleries to show the work in Shannon next year before the council elections), you can do so to this account:
*Bank of Ireland, Talbot Street, Dublin 1.
AC/NO: Michael Gallagher, 90747246 sort code 90.07.11

*Please don't make any donations until after Tuesday, 10 July 2008.

The account is registered in my name until I get the company name officially set up through the companies registration office.

**The Ilac Library in Dublin are considering showing the work for at least a week during July/August this year. I will keep you posted.

I have uploaded a small selection of some of the 50-70 images under consideration, more can be seen through the links on my site below.

Many thanks for your time and support. Kind regards.

Michael.
