Rabbi shot dead in revenge for Gaza raid

A rabbi was shot dead in the West Bank Thursday in what Palestinian militants said was the first retaliation for the devastating bombing raid on Gaza City earlier this week.

Colonist Rabbi Elimelech Shapira, 43, was killed early in the morning in a daring ambush near the West Bank settlement of Alei Zahav when Palestinian commandos opened fire on his car. They shot the notorious settler leader before he could go for his gun.

All of the active sevice unit returned safely to their base.

The Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, a militia linked to Yasser Arafat's Fatah movement claimed responsibility for the attack after warning that it would avenge the death of 17 Palestinians including Salah Shehada, the leader of the Hamas terrorist group's military wing.

the rabbi was an armed settler leader who was notorious for his calls for the expulsion of palestinians from the occupied territories. he also led attacks on palestinian communities.

this surgical strike by the palestinian resistance was against a combatant.

I don't derive any pleasure from the death of any human being, but the so called "settlers" on the West Bank and Gaza are NOT CIVILIANS, they are heavily armed and are among the most extreme, racist and fundamentalist section of Israeli society. Many Israelis dislike them almost as much as the Palestinian people. If they were not attempting to colonise Palestinian land and were back home, they would be in no danger of losing their lives.

The rabbi had eight children and he was known for his great love for music and his playing of the flute enchanted many people.Your pleasure of seeing Jews butchered is disgusting.
This murder is not a revenge. This method of shooting at cars with an Israeli license plates
is a common occurrence for the last two years.Today four Israelis, including a child, were murdered in two shooting attacks south of the West Bank city of Hebron. Three of the dead were from the same family.

The military wing of Yasser Arafat's Fatah faction, the Al Aqsa Martyrs` Brigades, claimed responsibility for the two attacks.

According to preliminary reports, the gunmen opened fire at an Israeli vehicle when it reached the Zif Junction. This vehicle was carrying a family from Psagot, on their way to visit relatives in the area. Three of the passengers, including a child, were killed and another person was injured.

The gunmen then returned to their vehicle and continued on their way until they opened fire on another automobile, near to the Carmel settlement, which is located about 3 kilomters south of the Ziv Junction. In this attack, another Jew was murdered , and two others wounded.
Your "brave" Palestinians terrorists wait for cars with Israeli license plates and then shoot without mercy at the unsuspecting travellers.
Israeli Arabs were also murdered in the same way, because their cars had an Israeli license plate. In Mar 26, 2002 - Major Cengiz Soytunc of Turkey and Catherine Berruex of Switzerland, members of the TIPH observer force in Hebron, were murdered in an ambush shooting by a Palestinian gunman near Halhul.
It's sad to see that people like you are cheerful when people are murdered.
I don't think you really want this tragedy to end .You just enjoy seeing Jewish blood spilled.

If the Palestinians were not attempting to murder Jews and were back home, building their country and cultivating their soil , they would be in no danger of losing their lives,Israeli forces would have no reason to invade their cities in search of terrorist, they would be able to come to work in Israel ,and negotiations for a Palestinian state would continue.

You are in dire need of a history lesson. The Palestinian people are in their own country. The foreigners are the Zionist racists. The resistance of the Palestinian people to the Zionist colonisation of their country is fully justified.

Pat, you're a sick fu#k...some old religious leader being murdered by a bunch of cowardly scum..."commandoes"?? you're joking...they don't have the props to go up against the IDF.

your moronical ravings remind me of provo propaganda...I'll bet you support those murdering bastards too.

I am afraid that your ravings disgust me, to attempt to defend the murders of young children, including a baby is DISGUSTING. The so called settlers are NOT civilians, they are foreigners who are attempting to colonise Palestinian land.
The fact that Palestinians resist being ethnically cleansed should not surprise anyone except the brain dead. I very much regret the death of the young child who was killed in the attack by the Palestinian resistance, that child could not possibly be held responsible for the actions of his/her parents.

rob,

this was a 43 year old armed settler leader who had led attacks against palestinian civilians.

yes the palestinians don't have tanks or attack helicopters or F16s but they've still killed a lot of idf members.

i am proud of my support for the palestinian resistance.

i do criticse the killing of a child though. children are never legitimate targets.

as for the provos - i have many & had many criticisms of them. some of their actions were so reckless they have to be condemned. in particular: la mon, shankill rd, enniskillen etc. who ever carried out these attacks must have known that civilian casulties were inevitable.

i do however see the difference between the violence of the oppressed & that of the oppressor.
