Anti-War Vigil GPO 5.30-6.30pm

category dublin | anti-war / imperialism | event notice author Friday March 28, 2008 17:03author by Mairtin MacMaolainauthor email mairtinmachuca at gmail dot com Report this post to the editors

For peace with justice

We are calling on all folks who are opposed to the wars on Afghanistan and Iraq to make their opposition visible for an hour a week - solo or with friends.

To vigil is to stay awake. Our society slumbers as our warships, fighter aircraft, troops and bombers unleash death and destruction on the people of Iraq. The body bags of British, Australian and American troops come home without causing a ripple beyond the immediate families of the deceased.

Every Monday for the time being at 5.30-6.30pm (might change in future but will definitely be once a week) there will be a vigil against war outside the GPO...bring along all banners/messages of protest/placards demanding peace and justice in whatever area of the world that demands it...so far predominant themes have been for peace and justice in Iraq, Afghanistan, Colombia, calls for the Irish government to cease aiding global state terrorism, calls for the banning of cluster bombs and the dismantling of the arms trade...please do come along and support when you can so that the opposition to war in our world is not just a passive thing that we publicly protest about every few years when things begin to heat up....idea is to make a colourful array of people each week from all groups/individuals against war and working for justice from whatever part of the world with banners/placards/pictures/even music to show our solidarity with victims of war and remind the authorities of this land that some choose not to forget about their complicity in the suffering of the poor and dispossessed of this world!

through the courts & prisons and hear their stories.
