First Annual Cork Bike Swap Shop

category cork | environment | event notice author Tuesday March 18, 2008 21:04author by Sarah Danaher Report this post to the editors

Released : Cork, 18 March 2008

Do you regularly find yourself stressfully hunting for parking spaces or calming your nerves by fiercely honking in traffic jams? Or do you regularly get frustrated because you’ve just missed the bus or wasted hours waiting for one which never shows up or passes you by because it’s full?

If so, then read on and dream of a healthier life…Imagine yourself ringing around the twisty roads, breathing in the fresh air as you spin past the traffic jams, feeling like a knight on his steed as you thrill in the physical exhilaration of climbing the great hills of Cork and the rush as you feel the wind on your cheeks, whizzing downhill…

Imagine cycling…

If you don’t have a bike or if you’ve outgrown the one languishing in your shed, then why not join the bike spring clean?

Whether you are a Sunday Cyclist or a die-hard biker or you’re just eager to get-fit on a bike, you can soon avail of a unique opportunity to get a new bike or share your old two-wheeler.

Curious? Then, why not venture over to Emmet Place (near Cork Opera House) on Saturday 29 March 2008 between 2 and 5 pm, when Cork City Council will be hosting the First Cork Bike Swap Shop.

Just bring along your old bike or the bike your kids have outgrown or simply come and see if someone else has a bike that takes your fancy.
Remember a brand new bike is more likely to get stolen and many people have lovely “old” bikes rarely used..
And if you really fancy biking on something that will turn heads in admiration, why not get a consultation at the Pimp Your Bike Stall?

Bike-enthusiasts, bike-related businesses and organisations, including Cork City Council, Cork Cycling Campaign and Cork Environmental Forum, will have booths with all sorts of bike related goods or services.

Music, a raffle and entertainment from Cork Circus Company will be provided over the course of the afternoon.

So why not come and set free one of the most convenient and civilized conveyances known to man: the bicycle!
