Comhlámh’s Media Skills Course

This course provides participants with the knowledge and essential practical skills to relate more effectively with the media, including broadcast media skills, press release writing skills, and a session around the potential of the new media and creative media events.

The three sessions can be booked independently. The sessions are aimed at NGO Staff and Volunteers who are involved in media management, creating media pitches or who are spokespersons for their organisations/groups.

****Wednesday, 2nd of April:
*Session 1 - Media landscape and Press Release Skills, 10 am – 1 pm
Content: This session will introduce participants into the Irish/international media landscape and into media management. Emphasis lies on practical exercises on writing a press release.

*Session 2 - Media Opportunities and New Media, 2 – 5 pm
Content: This session will introduce participants into different forms of media events and give an overview of tools for coming up with creative ideas, in particular for photo opportunities. The second half will focus on the potentials of the new media (such as e-campaigning, blogs, forums, My Space and You Tube, etc.) and include an exercises on writing for blogs. Input by new media expert/journalist (Name TBC)

**** Wednesday, 9th of April
Session 3: Broadcast Media Skills, 2 – 5:30 pm
This session will prepare participants for broadcast interviews. In the run of the session we will review different interview types, pass on tips on dealing with difficult situations. Emphasis lies on practicing broadcast interviews.

Facilitator: Catherine Heaney, DHR Communications.
Venue: The Digital Hub, Crane Street, Dublin 8
Cost per Session: Members: €15, Non-Members: €20, Unwaged/Student: €10,
