Why is it necessary to have this event in a bar? This would be contrary to Muslim sensibilities. Sheikh Ahmed Yassin himself often spoke out against drink. Bars are often destroyed in Gaza and the patrons beaten up.

It's not the Irish Muslim Solidarity Campaign, it's the Irish Palestine Solidarity Campaign. Many Palestinians are not Muslims, they have different faiths or none. The Koran forbids a lot of things that shouldn't be forbidden and permits a lot of things that shouldn't be permitted (as does the Bible, of course). Fair play to the IPSC for organising this event

The Palestinians would not want solidarity to be financed from alcoholic events. With the re conquest of Al Quds there will be no bars even for non-Muslims.

So the Palestinians have appointed you to be their spokesman, eh? I don't suppose there would be any place for Christians, Jews or athiests in the 'liberated' Palestine you dream of. The Palestinians have never supported any plan to impose a religious fundamentalist dictatorship - whether Christian, Jewish or Muslim, they're all equally bad. When Hamas came first in the elections two years ago, the vote for Fatah and the left-wing parties was still well over 50%. Hamas won support because they were determined opponents of the occupation, and because they were not corrupt like the Fatah leadership. Many of the people who voted for them in 2006 would have voted for the secular leftist Mustafa Barghouti when he stood against Abbas the previous year. I'd imagine most Palestinians would be delighted to know that people are organising solidarity fund-raisers for their cause in Ireland and they don't consider shutting down bars to be the main priority when their country is under a brutal occupation.

Hi Fayadeen, I think 'Abdullah's' comment is pretty obviously a wind-up. It's the way a right-winger would imagine all of 'the Muslims' to talk and think.

Won't be able to make it to the DIT talk but hope it goes well, and look forward to seeing folks at the quiz!
