The Women's Room

This is a short piece in general response to queries received regarding the setting up of
sites on existing available free open software systems.

There are many women's groups currently developing tech and doing road shows for women
who wish to focus their community voices onto IMC type systems. This is in response to
a developing awareness of a need within women's political communities for 'a room of
one's own' to work on issues and themes that never quite make the radar.

I thought it best to throw out the addresses, I am not a techie ; but a writer; and there is
some expertise available to activists who are interested in the area.

Firstly from the experiential viewpoint, most of the systems that we use or have
practiced on (sourceforge and drupal especially) are actually really simple and you
don't need a crash helmet to perform hides/tracking/upload/creation of categories
or editing.

You may need possibly someone with a bit of tech; and a good operating chat.

There, the IRC chat and the Indy Womyn and techies (along with feminist outreach
volunteers take you through the basics)

[The systems are adaptible to guys too ;-), however the type of work that is
ongoing on these sites is gender specific and due to some of the issues
a lot of women feel better info sharing at their own sweet pace-]

The creative possibilities of the tech applications from the point of view of
project work involving many disciplines is detailed in the Novi Sad
