Foreign Secretary David Lammy set out "the future of the U.K.'s foreign policy" this week. It's an abysmal vision, says Dr. David McGrogan, but it gives hope that the edifice of 'progressive realism' will soon collapse.

TRALEE: Vote NO to EU Reform Treaty!

BOOK LAUNCH & SLIDE SHOW

Kieran Allen, UCD sociologist, is launching a new book, "Reasons to Vote No to the Lisbon Treaty" in Tralee.

He will give a SLIDE SHOW on the impact of the Lisbon Treaty as part the public launch for the book in The Grand Hotel, Tralee on Tuesday 29th January @ 8PM.

In a statement, Kieran Allen says,

"Many people are confused by the Lisbon Treaty and the government is doing little to enlighten them on its main provisions.

It pretends that the debate is between those who are for and against Europe. The real issue however is: *what kind* of Europe do we want?

The Irish are the only ones of the 450 million people in the EU who will be allowed to vote. We have a unique opportunity to voice our concern about where the EU is going.

The Lisbon Treaty is the most serious challenge facing anyone who cares about social justice. The book "Reasons to Vote No to Lisbon" argues that there are very good reasons to vote NO.

* It will lock Europe into a straight jacket of Privatisation and makes little provision for a social Europe.
* It does nothing to address the lack of democracy and helps create an EU super-state.
* It gives legal support to EU battle groups and NATO. It will also force countries, including Ireland, to increase military spending.

The Lisbon Treaty is virtually the same as the EU Constitution which was *rejected* in France and Holland.

Bertie Ahern acknowledged that when he said, "Thankfully, they have not changed the substance… 90 per cent is still there."

Kieran Allen is also one of the editors of a new campaigning website www.VoteNo.ie.
