EPA Climate Change Free Lecture Series. Lecture 1: The Science of Climate Change – Facing the facts

category dublin | environment | event notice author Thursday November 15, 2007 12:36author by PaddyK2 Report this post to the editors

Speaker: Dr Martin Manning, University Corporation for Atmospheric Research, USA, Director of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change(IPCC) Working Group I Support Unit and lead author of the IPCC 4th Assessment Report 2007.
Date: Tuesday, 20th November 2007
Venue: The Alexander Hotel, Merrion Square, Dublin 2
Time: 6.30 pm to 8.00pm

The Environmental Protection Agency is hosting a series of lectures on climate change over the coming six months. The seven-part series will explore key aspects of climate change ranging from predictions and impacts, to its economic and political consequences. Speakers are top international experts.

Dr Padraic Larkin, EPA Director, Office of Climate, Licensing and Resource Use said ‘The potential for catastrophic climate change is now acknowledged as one of the most serious threats facing humanity. Responsibility for dealing with that threat falls to this generation and fundamental and far reaching structural and lifestyle changes are required if we are to avoid the worst consequences. We simply cannot afford to ignore the problem or to pass it on to our children to deal with. The time for action is now and we need to mobilise everybody to the task if we are to be successful.
Clear, accurate and timely information is vital in raising awareness among the public, the politicians and among key policy and decision makers in the country. We feel this series of lectures will be a valuable step towards raising awareness about this important topic.”

The series starts with two lectures to be given by lead authors of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Fourth Assessment Report on climate change.

Attendance at all lectures is free, but advance booking is essential due to the demand.

To book, please contact Clara Clark at: [email protected].

Detailed information on the lecture series is available from the EPA website on www.epa.ie/news/events/

Didn't people know that?

The grant licences to Shell and incinerators after of course An bord Pleanal paves the way for them by
being in the hands of the corporates and the councils. Is it an Al Gore idea, or did the new responsibility
manifest from the ether?

Offshore being better in community terms than onshore, but exploitation of resources is
in this case about :- The utter betrayal of the Rossport community and by extension the people of
Ireland by Noel Dempsey TD. who also fucked Aer lingus (to enrich Mannion) and put the
NRA in power (as an unelected, self-selected quango).

Personally speaking I do not think he is worth the attention that he gets. He is a small statured
bully (like Cullen), thats the problem with little men (like Sarkozy) they have a chip on their
shoulder and in order to get attention they like negative publicity. I personally feel that he
should be stalked by people wearing 'I am with stupid T-Shirts' and put in an album for
comedy purposes- cos he's caused a lot of upset in order to get attention. Maybe his
therapist will discuss his Napoleon complex with him and direct him to a fuller personal
expression in time. Small little twats like him should not be allowed to abuse office to indulge
their psychopathy. Bertie seems vaguley attracted to little men and fat women called Mary
which never fails to entertain me anyway and when he has finished making his house of cards
based on the wobbly US ecomomy and the exploitation of other races, the next generation
will be cleaning up the mess!

It comes from before Dempsey's time.

It was Ray Burke that gave away our rights to ownership and royalties to offshore finds.
