Meeting to mobilise against the world bank THIS THURSDAY @ 6 in SEOMRA SPRAOI

world bank TO MEET IN DUBLIN nov 12th and 13th

Despite fears of getting caught in the trap of 'summitism' & 'dead end activism' a couple of us met in seomra spraoi last night to see about making sure the world bank can't just swoop into our capital city without their public profile getting messed with as a result. And it was in the spirit of f**cking with the world bank that this meeting began.

Meeting got off to a slow start with 3 in attendance but picked up speed as a brainstorming session resulted in a couple of potential mobilization strategies, a number of other people joined meeting towards the end.

We discussed the following....

1. the world bank are to meet Monday 12th and Tuesday 13th of November in Malahide. NGO's are organizing for something to take place at central bank on one of these days.
Suggestions were made to hold something on the alternative day out in Malahide and to work alongside NGO's supporting their action and inviting them to support ours.

2. the possibility of holding a speaking tour of 3rd level institutions around the Leinster area in order to mobilise students. (and contacting other colleges around Ireland to see if we could interest them in holding talks, stalls, or even just putting up posters)

3. Operating as Dublin Grassroots Network. A discussion on why it's been suggested to operate under this name is active on the grassroots dissent mailing list....

4. weird acronyms to potentially be adopted such as DGNAWB, GDAWB, GAWB, DAAWB....

5. the next meeting - is to take place thursday 18th october at 6pm in seomra spraoi

If you can't the attend meeting but are interested in involving yourself in this process please let us know by emailing this address [email protected]

Dublin Grassroots Network became Grassroots Dissent following a merger with Dissent Eire in 2005. Those who identify with the name DGN / Grassroots Dissent work by the following principles

Grassroots Dissent Principles

What kind of world do we want?

-----------------------------------------

We want a society where:

- People have control over their own lives

- People have control over their own activities

- People work as equals

and we reject whatever systems and actions impede this.

We want how we work together to reflect what we are working towards.

We argue for a sustainable environmental, economic and social

system, agreed by the people of the planet.

Methods of struggle

-------------------------

We affirm direct democracy in opposition to lobbying and parliamentary

politics.

We advocate forms of resistance which maximise respect for life and

oppressed people's rights, as well as the construction of bottom-up

alternatives to global capitalism.

We advocate direct action, solidarity, civil disobedience and creative

resistance.

How we work together

-----------------------------

Grassroots Dissent is a decentralised network of diverse groups and

individuals, which respects different ways of organising, in keeping with

the principles of direct democracy and bottom-up organisation.

We will strive to be as open, inclusive and accessible as possible,

respecting the different capacities, skills and creativity that people

bring to the struggle for real equality, justice and sustainability.

In line with these principles, we will not tolerate aggression,

discrimination or disempowerment within the network.

We commit to learning from all those struggling for equality and against oppression to strengthen our understanding of the world and our own activities.
