Cork Sinn Féin is organising a weekend of events to commemorate Terence McSwiney, the Republican Lord Mayor of Cork and IRA leader who died on hunger-strike in Brixton Prison in 1920.

A Festival of Ballads

On Saturday 27th October, "A Festival of Ballads" will take place at Blackrock GAA Club. The night will be in aid of An Cumann Cabhrach (Mumhan) and will feature The Irish Brigade, The Spirit of Freedom, Shebeen's Alan Quinn and Padraig Mór (ex-Shebeen). Doors open at 8pm. Tickets cost €10 and are avaliable through the Sinn Féin Office, 136 Barracks Street, Cork

Historical Walk

Sunday 28th October. Re-live the passion and drama of Cork's War of Independence on this guided tour of places and buildings in Cork City centre where critical events in the freedom struggle took place. Assemble 11am outside the Sinn Féin office on Barrack's Street.

Annual Terence McSwiney Commemoration

On Sunday 28th October, republicans from Cork and further afield will commemorate the death on hunger strike of Terence McSwiney in Brixton Prison in 1920. Assemble 2.30 at Ballyphehane Community Centre. March to Republican Plot in St Finbarr's Cemetary led by Youghal Republican Flute Band. Prominent Speaker.
