Over The Edge will be hosting a special reading in November to celebrate the 2007 Windows Anthology. Windows, edited by Heather Brett & Noel Monaghan, showcases the work of emerging poets, fiction writers and visual artists. The reading will take place at 8pm on Friday, November 16th at Sheridan’s Wine Bar, 14-16 Church Yard Street, Galway (beside St. Nicholas’s Church). All welcome.
 Aoife Casby Three Galway-based writers - Alan McMonagle, Mary Madec & Aoife Casby – have had their work chosen for inclusion in this year’s Windows. Alan, Mary & Aoife all participated in the Spring/Summer round of poetry workshops at Galway Arts Centre and each of them has been a Featured Reader at the Over The Edge: Open Readings in Galway City Library. Aoife Casby also read at this year’s Cuirt Festival/Over The Edge showcase reading.
Alan McMonagle, Mary Madec & Aoife Casby will read from their work, as will Mayo-based contributors, John Corless & Michelle O’Sullivan. Another contributor to this year’s Windows anthology is New Zealand poet, Ginny Sullivan. Ginny lived in Galway in 2004, during which time she participated in a poetry workshop facilitated by Over The Edge co-organiser Kevin Higgins. Poet Lorna Shaughnessy, who participated in the same workshop, and was herself a contributor to Windows in 2004, will read the poems Ginny has contributed to the anthology.
John Corless writes short stories, poetry and drama. He is a founder member of the Mayo Writers’ Block, a group of creative writers who meet regularly in Claremorris. His poetry and short fiction has appeared in a number of publications in Ireland, the UK and USA. ‘Ag Ullmhú do Cuairteoir’ is part of a series of stories on Irish-offshore island life.
Alan McMonagle is originally from Longford but now lives in Galway City. He writes both fiction and poetry. His work has appeared in Southword, The Cuirt Annual, west47online and Crannog. Last year he took second place in the Sean O'Faolain short story competition and was also short-listed for the Fish Short Story award. He recently completed an MA in Writing at NUI Galway. He was a Featured Reader at the March 2007 Over The Edge: Open Reading in Galway City Library. He has also read his work at The Frank O’Connor Short Story Festival. His fiction has been selected for inclusion in this year’s Windows anthology for emerging writers.
Mary Madec is from Mayo but has lived in Philadelphia, Dublin and now Galway. She started writing seriously in 2004. Since then her poems have appeared in The Sunday Tribune, The Shop, Crannog, West 47 & The Cuirt Annual. She was a Featured Reader at the November 2005 Over The Edge: Open Reading. Mary was shortlisted for the Cuirt Festival/Over The Edge showcase reading in both 2006 & 2007. She was chosen to take part in this year’s Poetry Ireland Introductions readings, and was runner-up in this year’s In Sight of Raftery Festival poetry competition. She is currently taking part in the Advanced Poetry Workshop at Galway Arts Centre. Her poetry has been chosen for inclusion in this year’s Windows anthology.
Aoife Casby is originally from Claremorris in County Mayo but now lives in Carraroe. Her poetry and fiction have been published in The Sunday Tribune, The Cork Literary Review, The Divas anthology (Arlen House) and The Cuirt Annual. In 2006 she completed an MA in Writing at NUI Galway, and was highly commended in the Start Poetry Chapbook competition. Aoife was chosen to take part in this year’s Poetry Ireland Introductions Readings and also read at this year’s Cuirt Festival/Over The Edge showase reading. She recently took part in the Advanced Poetry workshop at Galway Arts Centre. Her poetry has been chosen for inclusion for inclusion in this year’s Windows anthology.
Michelle O’Sullivan has a BA & MA in Literature. She lives in County Mayo. Her work has appeared in numerous publications: The Shop, Poetry Ireland Review, Cyphers, Southword, The Sunday Tribune, Agenda, Equinox, Iota, Mobius, Mslexia, and various others. Forthcoming work in others such as PN Review, The Southern Indiana Review, Obsessed with Pipework. She is currently working on a collection of poetry as well as a collection of short fiction.
