What is so unfair about global trade rules and what alternatives are there?

Five Wednesday evenings starting on the 14th of November, 7.00pm to 9.00pm

International trade rules have a massive impact on people in developing countries, whether they are farmers, workers or families just trying to make a living in the context of globalisation. Yet the rules of the global economy have been set up to serve the interests of big business, not people’s needs. Since around ten years a global movement is campaigning for trade rules that put people and the environment before the interests of big business.

The five evenings organized by Comhlamhs Trade Campaign Group introduce you into the world of global trade. The players (the WTO, EU, Ireland, Big business, etc.) and decision making processes, the impacts on people and the environment, the role of Multinational Corporations based in Ireland, the struggles against unfair trade in South America and Alternatives to the current global Trade system.

Speakers include: Colin Roche (Oxfam), Barry Canon (Dublin City University), Conall O’Caoimh (development consultant and activist), Peter Gaynor (Fair Trade Mark Ireland), David Joyce (ICTU) and more.
