Ben Pile brands the Government's 'growth agenda' as empty political theatre, with wooden actors stumbling through hollow lines, written by someone who has no clue what growth actually is.

Over 500 people came out to support the Justice for Terence Wheelock Campaign on Saturday, June the 9th.
indy_1_1.jpg

On the backdrop of a warm sunny Saturday, hundreds of local residents joined by supporters marched through Summerhill, down Gardiner St. and finally to Store St. demanding justice for Terence Wheelock and all those families who've had love ones die in police custody.

At Store Street - Joe Costello TD (Labour Party), Mary Lou McDonald MEP (Sinn Fein), Tony Gregory TD (Independent), Councillor Aodhán Ó Riordáin (Deputy Lord Mayor of Dublin) and Gregor Kerr (Workers Solidarity Movement) all gave speeches reaffirming their support for the campaign.

The WSM, Socialist Party, IRSP, Sinn Fein, Labour Party all had members and banners at the well attended demo.

However, their presence was nothing comapred to the hundreds of local North Inner City residents who came out to show their solidarity with the Wheelock family.

Solidarity is Strength!

An Injury to One; Is an Injury to All.

Wheelock death inquiry urged

Carl O'Brien

Politicians have added their voice to calls for an independent inquiry into the death of 20-year-old Terence Wheelock, who died after being found unconscious in a Garda station.

Gardaí say he attempted to hang himself with a cord from his tracksuit bottoms in June of 2005. He was later taken to the Mater hospital and died three months later.

Mr Wheelock's family, however, say these allegations are untrue and insist he was mistreated in custody.

Hundreds of people gathered in support of the Wheelock family at Seán McDermott Street church on Saturday and marched to Store Street Garda station where they held a peaceful protest. Mr Wheelock's family say there is important evidence relating to how Terence was treated by gardaí before his death, along with significant information relating to blood stains on his clothes, which need to be addressed.

"We are calling on the Government once again for the establishment of a full independent inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Terence's death," said Terence's brother, Larry Wheelock.

A number of politicians expressed support for the family's call, including Independent TD Tony Gregory, Labour TD Joe Costello and Sinn Féin MEP Mary Lou McDonald.

A date for the resumption of an inquest into the death has been set for mid-July after calls for evidence to be submitted from an independent postmortem were rejected by the Dublin City Coroner.

The cops have lost all dignity in my view. Is there not one, who is willing to break the wall of silence?? This is a pathetic indictment of the level of integrity within the Store Street police station. My heart goes out to the Wheelock family. Hell dose not have a place hot enough for those responsible for this murder and also, those involved in the cover up.
Did not Marie Cassidy (the State Pathologist?) give the cops the all clear and say there was no foul play??. How does she still have a job??
Good luck to the family in their search for justice in this god forsaken country,

do not dispair paul
there is a genuine positive sense in the community that something has to be done.
the whole community think its a joke the cover up that was put in place.
regarding marie cassidy well she messed up her railroading job to say the least was ameaturish
she made her self look foolish in the coroners court after she revealed that in her personal notes she had photographs depicting injuries but did not veiw them.
she this was an oversight.... eeehhhh????? ok
she wont last to long..
the truth will come out paul .
