Sinn Fein do it again - more abandonment of Tax proposals

category national | politics / elections | news report author Tuesday May 08, 2007 17:56author by Well, Well Report this post to the editors

Arthur Morgan, Sinn Fein T.D. for Louth has just confirmed on Today FM that Sinn Fein has abandoned its policy of increasing Capital Gains Tax to 40%

Following quickly on the dumping of proposals to increasing corporation tax to 17.5% and the introduction of a new tax rate of 50% for incomes over €100,000, Sinn Fein TD, Arthur Morgan has announced that Sinn Fein will not now propose to increase Capital Gains Tax from 20% to 40%. Morgan, during the course of a debate with John O'Mahony of the P.D.'s on Today FM, confirmed that Sinn Fein will not seek to increase any taxes following the election. O'Mahoney congratualted Arthur Morgan and Sinn Fein for adopting policies advocated by the P.D.'s that have led to the phenomenal economic progress in Ireland over the past ten years!

Well done Sinn Fein - our congratulations on being the same as the rest.

Does this mean that SF is seriously considering the possibility of
entering government and that its policies will have to be practical and sensible?

It means that Sf is serious about hopping into bed with FF and is willing to sell its soul to achieve it.

There's a lot to be said for SF in power. Capital values would drop and the losses will set off our gains elsewhere. So no 20% or 40% need be paid.

just promise the moon and lie your way in then forget your promises and do whatever you want once you have the power.

Hope they are doing it for good reasons. At least there is a chance that there are some people who actually care about Ireland more than money in that party. I see them supporting many worthy causes on the ground unlike most other parties.

They certainly can't be any worse than FF or PD's who do exactly the same thing but don't give a shit about anything but money. Why is it so bad when sinn fein do it too. It just shows they understand the stupid way things work here.

I think its great that they are abandoning all previous principles. We should be celebrating it. The sooner they get off the 'radical' platform the clearer the picture will be for the rest of us.

What radical platform? They never occupied a radical platform. They always claimed to but in effect did not. Now make room for real radical alternatives. I read today that eirigi have become a political party....watch that space.....
