This is how they treat the press up at Ballinaboy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKDd1ZipqH0 The Guards are rough with protesters, and some misguided people still blame the demonstrators for blocking roads and standing up for those of us who want to see a return for all our resources, or just want to breathe cllean air in Erris. People claim that the violence is somehow coming from Shell to Sea. |

Jump To Comment: 1 2 3 4 5It's plain to see what's going on in Mayo- the Shell Highway is not subject to the normal rules of policing, and no one is going to be allowed to stop the peat lorries, even for the few minutes it takes to take a picture.
The cops have obviously been told they can use whatever force is necessary, as long as the highway is kept clear. If this means hurting protesters, journalists, visiting politicians, whatever it takes...
And those who say that that the violence is actually caused by the protesters- what can they say now?
That photographer is an awarding photojournalist with Assiocated Press. He worked for years with the Irish news before working joining AP.
Have the shell cops are have moved their campaign up a gear and now attacking the press is fair game or is this an isolated incident where one of their number got carried away.
Either way it shows their disregard for the Irish people.
Niall you showed yourself to be a man of honour and courage. A true journalist! Fair play to for showing that buffon the damage.
His reaction reflects the currupted culture developing in the Gardai camp at Bellmullet. This can only harm the organisation. There has already been on scapegoat.
Sgt Conor O'Reilly, a specially trained operative for these protests, has been removed but ultimately it will come down to Supt Joe Gannon who will take the blame. Being savy in the art of office politics only works for so long.
There is only shame for An Gardai Siochana at the Bellinaboy Bridge.
Well done to all , keep up the good fight. They can't kick you around for ever. Was the camera man injured ? I assume he is going to make a complaint against those brutal shell cops.
I didn't think it was actually that bad. Those Garda need some sort of retraining into defending the Irish public rather than protecting silly tainted corporations like shell. A good election priority would be to get our gas back. Who are those garda working for the Irish taxpayer or foriegn business men? Why are they not protecting public? Keep up the fight everyone!!!
The AP journalist may well want to get in touch with me, as I beleive this is the same Garda officer that decided to kick me in the knee on March 13.
