It's been exasperating to watch as, in defiance of the wishes of Western electorates, the cultural make-up of our countries is radically transformed. It's time to scrap the asylum system, says Lionel Shriver.

Germany's 'firewall' against the AfD is set to saddle voters with the same pro-migration Leftoid Government they're desperate to get rid of. When will the Right realise the Left has them over a barrel, asks Eugyppius.

Sometimes Trump's mercantilist thinking is so radical as to be wildly, crazily brilliant, as with the Gaza Riviera plan. But on Ukraine it's letting him ? and the West ? down, says Ian Rons.

Gimme Space! Social centres and the need for community space

category dublin | miscellaneous | event notice author Friday March 30, 2007 14:54author by Spraoiperson - Seomra Spraoi Report this post to the editors

An evening event at Hotel Ballymun

Some folk from the Seomra Spraoi social centre collective will host a discussion about social centres and community space, preceded by a talk & slideshow about Seomra Spraoi and followed by live (hopefully) music and finger food. Seomra Spraoi has invited community groups from the Ballymun area to come along. Note that you have to phone to book (Hotel Ballymun is subject to very strict fire/safety regulations)

Gimme Space!
Social centres and the need for community space

Venue: Hotel Ballymun, Ballymun, Dublin
Date: Thursday April 5, 2007
Time: 8pm-11pm
Hosts: Seomra Spraoi collective

Seomra Spraoi is a social centre in Dublin's city centre, run by the people who use it. It has a kitchen and a library and is used for film screenings, music events, meetings, children's days, craft workshops, cafe days and more.

Some of the people involved in Seomra Spraoi will give a short talk and slide show about Seomra Spraoi, where it's been and where it's going. This will be followed by an open discussion in which you are invited to share your experiences of organising community space (e.g. community centres, after-school groups, sports clubs) and your ideas about what a social centre can be. The evening will finish with music and finger food. We hope to see you there.

Hey, that's great about Thinguma*jigSaw. They're from Norway aren't they? I love their music. Some people I know have been at the hotel in the evening and the stuff going on there is cool (whatever you think about the arguments made in that recent Indymedia feature about the overall issues with Hotel Ballymun).
