For All of the Colin Community The Sally Garden Community Centre in Poleglass will host a meeting this Wednesday (March 21) on the impending implementation of the British government's Water Charges. The meeting is an opportunity for everyone in the Colin Community to have their say on how best to fight the Charges. Speakers in attendance will include representatives from Communities Against the Water Tax, the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, Sinn Féin, SDLP and the People Before Profit group. |

Jump To Comment: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7Could someone please explain what the situation is with water charges. I read a WWPC press release wich semed to indicate SF etc had retreated on water charges and they were being deffered for 12months. Is that the case??
There is a strong possibility that water charges will at least be delayed for another year if the politicians do reach an agreement and return to Stormont. It will then be an issue for the Assembly, and it'll be interesting to see if they stick to their 'opposition' to water charges during the election campaign.
However, water charges are still a reality and could still come in at the start of next month, so we have to keep building the non-payment campaign across the North.
This meeting should be cancelled. It doesn't have the approval of the NISP.
A permit wasn't sought for nor for that matter granted by CWI HQ. Beware of bootlegs.
And for Pete(r)'s sake, why Poleglass?
to notice that the SWP invited an SDLP speaker to this meeting. Then again from history it is hardly surprising. They must have found the only member of the SDLP in the north that supports non-payment. Then again is this the position the SWP will actually be advocating at the meeting?
"The meeting is an opportunity for everyone in the Colin Community to have their say on how best to fight the Charges."
Come along. If we're doing it wrong sure you can give the line.
This meeting has not been organised by the SWP. It was organised by a number of community workers who live in the Colin area and who have no affiliation to the SWP.
Furthermore, as people who live and work in west Belfast, I am not aware of any reason why we should ask anyone's permission to have a public meeting in our own community.
Just asking, how did the meeting go? See these meetings advertised, no reports listed.
