Annual commemoration of Volunteer Tom Smith on Saturday 17th March, assembling at 2.30PM at St Joseph's Church, Berkeley Road, Phibsboorough, and marching to Glasnevin Cemetery.

Volunteer Tom Smith was shot dead during an escape attempt from Portlaoise Prison, on March 17th 1975

The main speaker at the commemoration will be Mary Lou Mc Donald MEP and the Chair will be Aengus O Snodaigh TD.

A larger than usual crowd turned out for the annual Vol.Tom Smith commemoration, despite the poor weather and the many distractions of the Saint Patrick's festival.

The speeches reinforced the sentiment of the crowd, that commemorating the sacrifice of activists like Tom Smith is as important today as it ever was.

If he was alive today, would Tom Smith agree to any principle being used to stop any Irish Republican working for the establishment of the Republic?

The war maybe over but the struggle is not!! every volunteer who has died in the past years for irish freedom deserves to be rememberd in full military style, the way he/she died!
The brits claim not to be in war in ireland, but they still remember there dead in full military style! i wonder if there were pictures of the brits in comemorations, would you still yap about?? you cant make republican colour partys the past it has been tradition and will always be tradition! SAY NO TO THE YAPS!!
