Virtual March and Solidarity Campaign.

On Thursday the Eight of March, International Women's Day 2007
a group of twelve geeks and feminist techies (their own words)
celebrated international women's day and solidarity with Jagtvej 69
Ungdomshuset House- because it was here in 1910 that the first International
Women's day was proposed by Clara Zeitkin (writer/editor and friend of Rosa Luxemburg)
The march was a virtual march.

The info is courtesy of Donna Metzlar at genderchangers- its a good action,
the images are from their site.

Other celebrations that are ongoing include a Sean Nos and poetry reading by
Irish women poets in the Unitarian Church- St Stephen's Green this evening
Organised by Poetry Ireland. (The event is free but you need to get in touch to
reserve a seat. (@ 7pm).

The genderchangers dedicated their action to the kids and activists at Ungdomshuset
as a mark of solidarity with the people evicted and to re-create a link with the
political root of the celebration of International women's day.

The First Women's Day :- Proposed by Clara Zeitkin and her relation to Luxemburg who
developed the theories of Marx and Lenin is often subsumed into the peculiar
academic and linear reading of history which in the west does not acknowledge
the hard working women of the socialist movements.

Clara Zeitkin ran a press and newspaper, she wrote numerous pamphlets
and developed socialist strategy.

Luxemburg's famous writings are collated in books and available on sites
such as:- http://www.marxists.org

-'Only in conjunction with the Proletarian woman will socialism be victorious'-(Zetkin)

Makes ye think about Castro thanking the women of Cuba for the revolution
and then ordering them back to the Kitchen (!)

[Luxemburg , whom had formulated econmic policies and was a Jewish
political activist was murdered along with Karl Liebknecht in 1919.
Their murders facilitated the brutal rise of German National socialism their
theories and writings were among the burnt and poscribed books.
Also the problems with the artists of the era are still being resolved , when
anything that did not fit into the thrust for Masculinst National Socialism
was called de-generate art and sold at profit to collectors or destroyed.
This included Chagall, Kandinsky, Grosz, Dix,Picasso etc-etc.]
